Proposed Interview Date: Week Commencing 22 June 2026

Contract Type: Temporary until 30 June 2028, (Temporary Post with Secondment Option)

Salary: PT4 £66,759 (subject to job-sizing)

Working Pattern: 35 hours per week (proposed start September 2026)

Location: Balwearie High School, Kirkcaldy

We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Principal Teacher of Targeted Support to strengthen our inclusive approach and lead high‑quality personalised support for young people. This is a temporary (at least 23 month) post which has arisen due to the redeployment of other staff in relation to our ongoing Capital buildings projects. This role will provide cover for part of the Principal Teacher Pupil Support post and will also capture aspects of our DYW Coordinator role.

Working closely with young people, colleagues, families and partners, you will lead a targeted and personalised support strategy that improves engagement, wellbeing and attainment, while contributing to whole‑school improvement. This is an excellent opportunity on a seconded basis or as a temporary opportunity for a values‑driven leader who is passionate about equity and making a real difference. Those interested on a seconded basis should discuss this opportunity with their current Headteacher prior to application.

Qualification, Registration and Skill Requirements

You are required to have high levels of interpersonal skills and abilities which will enable you to work as a member of the senior leadership team to lead and manage school improvement, both at strategic and operational levels, to ensure continuous improvement.

You are required to demonstrate a commitment to your own professional learning as a practitioner through career-long professional learning activity and to be able to show how this has impacted on your practice.

Full General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) registration.

For posts within primary you are required to be fully registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) in primary.

For posts within secondary you are required to be fully registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) in secondary for the specific subject.

You are required to model all behaviour expected of a Teacher in Scotland in line with the relevant Professional Standards.

Full registration is required for all permanent posts, for temporary Class Teacher posts, provisional GTCS registration in the relevant sector will be considered.

Candidates holding GTCS registration in further education must also hold primary or secondary registration to meet the essential criteria as determined by Fife Council. For teaching specific subjects you must be fully registered with GTCS to teach those subjects.

Before confirming to your appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland and become a member of the relevant PVG scheme.
