Job Description

At Gigamon, our purpose is to protect the hybrid networks and data of the largest, most complex organizations on the planet. Certified as a Great Place to Work, we offer a deep observability pipeline that efficiently delivers network-derived intelligence to cloud, security, and observability tools. This helps our customers to eliminate security blind spots, optimize network traffic, and dramatically reduce tool cost and complexity, enabling them to better secure and manage their hybrid cloud infrastructure. Gigamon has served more than 4,000 customers worldwide, including over 80 percent of Fortune 100 enterprises, 9 of the 10 largest mobile network providers, and hundreds of governments and educational organizations.Gigamon is seeking a Principal Engineer, Software Quality Engineering to lead the quality vision and execution for network visibility solutions across software, appliance platforms, and hardware validation domains. This role will define scalable test strategies, establish automation and quality engineering standards, and drive cross-functional alignment to deliver reliable, high-performance releases. They will partner closely with engineering and product teams to influence architecture, improve testability and observability, and ensure data-driven release readiness decisions. This is a highly impactful leadership role for someone who can mentor engineers, lead complex technical initiatives, and raise the quality bar across the organization.

What you’ll do:

  • Define and evolve the end-to-end quality strategy for networking products across software, platform hardware, and optics validation.
  • Own the quality roadmap for the area, prioritize high-impact initiatives, and drive execution across multiple teams with measurable outcomes.
  • Architect scalable automation frameworks and CI/CD quality gates that improve coverage, execution speed, and signal quality.
  • Establish engineering standards for test code quality, framework governance, and quality engineering best practices across teams.
  • Partner with development and product teams to translate customer use cases into test strategies, performance baselines, and non-functional requirements.
  • Lead technical design reviews to improve testability, observability, operability, and quality-by-design across the product architecture.
  • Drive alignment on quality risk, tradeoffs, and release readiness through clear, data-backed recommendations and escalations when needed.
  • Lead platform hardware qualification and optics or transceiver validation, including port bring-up, link stability, interoperability, and environmental or thermal considerations.
  • Build and expand automated lab coverage to enable repeatable, scalable validation of hardware and software quality.
  • Own and continuously improve functional, system, integration, and performance test suites, including latency, throughput, and scale validation.
  • Drive root-cause analysis for complex escapes and reliability issues, and implement prevention mechanisms through regression coverage, tooling, dashboards, and service-level improvements.
  • Mentor engineers through technical coaching, code reviews, and best practice guidance, while identifying capability gaps and enabling growth.
  • Support hiring and onboarding efforts by participating in interviews, shaping assessment criteria, and setting expectations for senior quality engineering talent.
  • Lead cross-functional incident response and customer escalation activities to close test gaps and verify corrective actions.
  • Identify and champion opportunities to improve engineering productivity through tooling, automation, and process improvements.

What you’ve done:

  • Earned a B.E. or B.Tech in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics and Communication Engineering, or a related field, or gained equivalent practical experience.
  • Built 16+ years of experience in dev-test, SDET, system testing, and automation for networking and/or security products, including ownership of major quality initiatives.
  • Demonstrated principal-level technical leadership by setting direction, leading cross-team programs, and influencing decisions without formal authority.
  • Developed strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to create alignment, resolve conflict, and communicate risks and tradeoffs clearly to engineering and product leadership.
  • Proven the ability to mentor and elevate engineers through coaching, technical reviews, and the establishment of engineering standards and best practices.
  • Built deep expertise in test automation design and implementation using Python, Robot Framework, or similar technologies, including framework architecture, maintainability, and CI integration.
  • Applied strong knowledge of networking fundamentals and protocols, including TCP/IP, Layer 2 and Layer 3 concepts, IPv4 and IPv6, NAT, routing and switching, and API or service testing across REST, HTTP/HTTPS, and TLS/SSL.
  • Designed and executed performance and scale validation using methodologies such as RFC2544, latency and throughput testing, soak testing, resiliency testing, and automated testbeds.
  • Gained hands-on experience with platform and hardware qualification, lab infrastructure, optics and cables, and ASIC-based systems such as Broadcom, Cavium, or Intel platforms.
  • Performed optics and transceiver validation and interoperability testing, including vendor optics qualification, link bring-up, FEC and auto-negotiation, DOM monitoring, and hardware or PHY issue isolation using platform diagnostics such as gdiag.
  • Validated BMC functionality and management interfaces, including sensor and FRU inventory, firmware updates, power and thermal telemetry, event logs, and out-of-band manageability coverage.
  • Worked extensively with modern engineering tools and workflows such as Jenkins, Jira, version control systems, CI/CD pipelines, and quality gates or metrics frameworks.
  • Delivered measurable improvements in product quality, reliability, and customer experience through disciplined quality engineering practices.
  • Communicated effectively in both written and verbal formats, with the ability to articulate technical tradeoffs and drive decisions across diverse stakeholders.

Who you are:

  • A strategic quality leader who combines deep technical expertise with strong execution and ownership.
  • A systems thinker who can connect software quality, hardware validation, automation strategy, and customer impact.
  • A collaborative partner who works effectively across engineering, product, and leadership teams to build alignment and drive outcomes.
  • A data-driven decision maker who uses evidence to assess risk, prioritize investments, and guide release readiness.
  • A hands-on technical mentor who raises team capability through coaching, review, and enablement.
  • A continuous improver who looks for better ways to scale quality, increase engineering efficiency, and strengthen reliability.
