Principal Strategy Analyst – Perth CBD – Permanent Full time

Western Power is looking for an exceptional strategic thinker to join our Transmission Development team as a Principal Strategy Analyst. This is a unique opportunity to influence how Western Power responds to changing customer demand, decarbonisation, market reform and long-term transmission network investment across Western Australia.

Working within the Strategic Design team, you will provide strategic insight and thought leadership that helps guide critical decisions during one of the most significant periods of transformation in the energy sector. You'll combine market intelligence, regulatory insights, scenario modelling and commercial analysis to help shape the future of our network and the communities it serves.

Your Role in Action

  • Lead the development of strategic analysis, modelling frameworks and insights that inform Western Power's long-term transmission planning and investment decisions.
  • Monitor emerging market, regulatory, economic, political and customer trends and assess their impact on Western Power's future direction.
  • Develop and apply complex analytical models to evaluate network scenarios, customer connection pathways, investment opportunities and system-wide outcomes.
  • Translate technical, market and regulatory insights into clear recommendations for senior leaders and decision-makers.
  • Build strategic frameworks, dashboards and decision-support tools that improve visibility of future demand, investment priorities and organisational risks.
  • Partner closely with internal teams across transmission planning, regulation, decarbonisation and network development to align strategic priorities.
  • Lead research and analysis on changing market conditions, government policy, customer demand and technology trends influencing the energy transition.
  • Provide thought leadership and strategic advice that supports Western Power's long-term objectives and system planning outcomes.
  • Influence and engage senior leaders and stakeholders through compelling presentations and evidence-based recommendations.
  • Mentor and support others within the team while fostering a collaborative, innovative and high-performing culture.

What Makes You a Great Fit

You are a naturally curious and commercially minded strategist who enjoys solving complex challenges and influencing long-term outcomes. You thrive in dynamic and evolving environments, ask thoughtful questions and can turn complex information into clear business decisions.

  • Degree qualifications in Engineering, Economics, Finance, Business or a related discipline.
  • Extensive experience in strategic analysis, business planning, economics, investment evaluation, corporate strategy, energy markets or a related field.
  • Advanced analytical, scenario modelling and problem-solving capability.
  • Strong understanding of energy, utilities, infrastructure or other asset-intensive industries.
  • Knowledge of Western Australian energy market and regulatory arrangements, or the ability to quickly build this capability.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence executive stakeholders and simplify complex concepts for diverse audiences.
  • A track record of developing robust business cases, strategic recommendations or investment plans supported by data-driven insight.

By joining Western Power, you will contribute to powering a cleaner energy future. We are dedicated to fostering career development and promoting a healthy work-life balance, empowering you to drive innovation as we develop a network that will serve the Western Australian community for generations. You will also benefit from a range of perks and opportunities, including:

  • The opportunity to purchase up to four weeks of additional leave per year.
  • Access to salary packaging, social club activities, and discounted health insurance and gym membership.
  • An award-winning employee recognition and benefits programme.
  • An innovative team culture that’s enabling the transition to renewable energy and decarbonisation.
  • In addition to standard leave, enjoy three wellness leave days each year.
  • Access to end-of-trip facilities at our Perth office and South Metro Depot, perfect for cyclists.
