Job Description

Defines and implements robust Cloud reliability and observability strategies, guaranteeing the continuous availability of Cloud systems. Collaborates in a technical capacity with architects and other enterprise teams, assisting in the adoption of modern Cloud infrastructure built within Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS). Solves stack-wide engineering issues as it relates to hardware, software, network, applications, and Cloud service providers. Uses business knowledge to translate the vision for divisional initiatives into business solutions by developing complex or multiple software applications and conducting studies of alternatives. Analyzes and recommends changes in project development policies, procedures, standards, and strategies to development experts and management.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Participates in architecture design teams.
  • Defines and implements application-level architecture.
  • Develops applications on complex projects, components, and subsystems for the division.
  • Recommends development testing tools and methodologies and reviews and validates test plans.
  • Responsible for QA readiness of software deliverables.
  • Develops comprehensive documentation for multiple applications or subsystems.
  • Establishes full project life cycle plans for complex projects across multiple platforms.
  • Responsible for meeting project goals on-time and on-budget.
  • Advises on risk assessment and risk management strategies for projects.
  • Plans and coordinates project schedules and assignments for multiple projects.
  • Acts as a primary liaison for business units to resolve various project/technology issues.
  • Provides technology solutions to daily issues and technical evaluation estimates on technology initiatives.
  • Advises senior management on technical strategy.
  • Mentors junior team members.
  • Performs independent and complex technical and functional analysis for multiple projects supporting several divisional initiatives.
  • Develops original and creative technical solutions to on-going development efforts.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and five (5) years of experience as a Principal Software Engineer/Developer (or closely related occupation) creating secure, scalable, and resilient Web and Cloud applications, using Microservices architecture principles on Cloud platforms.

Or, alternatively, Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and three (3) years of experience as a Principal Software Engineer/Developer (or closely related occupation) creating secure, scalable, and resilient Web and Cloud applications, using Microservices architecture principles on Cloud platforms.

Skills and Knowledge

Candidate must also possess:

  • Demonstrated Expertise (“DE”) participating in the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) -- system analysis, design, development, testing and maintenance -- of REST API based applications on public Cloud (AWS), with a focus on implementing automated, scalable, and repeatable Continue Integration (CI) and Continuous Deployment (CD) practices, using Python, Docker, AWS Services, and EKS; and monitoring cloud application performance using Datadog and Infrastructure as Code(IaC) tools -- CloudFormation.
  • DE architecting, designing, and developing secure and scalable Cloud applications, and integrating industry best practices in security and scalability, using microservices, serverless, and containerized solutions -- load balancing and autoscaling with comprehensive Identity and Access Management (IAM) policies, granular access controls, least privilege access model, encryption, and IaC tools (Cloud Formation).
  • DE architecting, designing, and developing resilient and reusable Cloud platform foundational components prioritizing high availability, performance, and cost efficiency with focus on creating loosely coupled reusable components, modular design, monitoring tools, and dashboards, using Microservices and Cloud Native architecture -- IaC (Cloudformation), Container Orchestration (Kubernetes), Datadog, Auto Scaling, and Load Balancing.
  • DE automating engineering practices during development, testing, and Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD), with a focus in improving efficiency and ensuring consistency, using Python, Shell scripting, Jenkins, GitHub, IaC tools (CloudFormation), automated test frameworks (Pytest and Behave), automated monitoring and alerts on Datadog and AWS CloudWatch, Code quality, and static analysis tool (SonarQube).

Salary: $160,700.00 - $166,000.00/year.
