Job Title: Principal Software Engineer

Location: Manyata Tech Park, Bangalore (Hybrid)

Business & Team: CommSec is Australia's largest online retail stockbroker. It is one of the most highly visible and visited online assets in Australian financial services. CommSec’s systems utilise a variety of technologies and support a broad range of investors. Engineers within CommSec are offered regular opportunities to work on some of the finest IT systems in Australia, as well as having opportunity to develop careers across different functions and teams within the wider Bank.

Impact & contribution:

You will contribute to the financial well-being of our customers by ensuring that our team builds the best solutions possible using modern development practices that ensure both functional and non-functional needs are met. If you have a history of building a culture of empowerment and know what it takes to be a force multiplier within a large organization then you’re the kind of person we are looking for.

Roles & responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership and architectural direction across the High-Net-Worth technology portfolio, with a particular focus on Banker Workbench and Private Banker experiences

  • Shape and deliver the technical integration of Private Banking capabilities into Banker Workbench, working closely with the teams that own and develop the platform

  • Drive complex technical problems from ambiguity to resolution — establishing a clear recommendation, building stakeholder alignment and ensuring decisions translate into executable engineering outcomes

  • Work hands-on where your involvement adds the greatest value, including prototypes, complex implementation work, code reviews and solving difficult engineering problems alongside the team

  • Design and guide scalable, secure and resilient services, APIs and integration patterns across a complex enterprise environment

  • Partner across multiple squads and domains to align architecture, dependencies, sequencing and delivery

  • Establish and promote reusable engineering patterns and standards that improve delivery speed, quality and operability

  • Champion modern engineering practices across automated testing, CI/CD, DevSecOps, observability, resilience and production ownership

  • Apply sound engineering judgement to emerging technologies, including AI and agentic patterns, where they can materially improve banker, operations or customer outcomes

  • Mentor engineers, provide technical coaching and raise engineering capability across the Crew

  • Challenge constructively, make timely decisions and take ownership of outcomes beyond the boundaries of an individual squad.

Essential skills:

  • We value deep engineering capability, sound technical judgement and the ability to learn over a checklist of specific technologies.

  • 15+ year of experience in Full stack engineering development role.

  • Expertise in NET / C# and modern backend engineering, React and TypeScript, Graph and REST APIs and API-first architecture, Microservices and SQL and NoSQL data stores.

  • Should be expertise in AWS and cloud-native architecture, Containers and Kubernetes, CI/CD and deployment automation, DevSecOps and secure-by-design engineering.

  • Automated testing across unit, integration and end-to-end layers.

  • Experience building AI-enabled applications, working with LLMs or agentic architectures is valuable.

  • Have designed and delivered large-scale distributed systems, APIs, integrations or customer-facing platforms

Qualification: Bachelor's / master’s degree in engineering/ information systems from an accredited university.
