The Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the era of data and AI through products including Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL Database, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI. The Databases organization delivers trusted, scalable, and AI-ready database technologies across cloud, hybrid, and on-premises environments. Our portfolio includes SQL Server, Azure SQL, Azure Cosmos DB, PostgreSQL, and MySQL, enabling developers and enterprises to build and run mission-critical applications at global scale.
As a Principal Software Engineer on the Fabric App Development team, you will help shape the future of developer experiences on Microsoft Fabric. You will drive the architecture and development of core platform capabilities that enable developers to build, deploy, and operate data applications with the simplicity of a modern software-as-a-service experience. This role offers the opportunity to influence product strategy, lead technical innovation, mentor engineers, and deliver AI-powered capabilities that redefine how developers interact with data platforms.

Responsibilities

Define and drive architecture and design for Fabric App platform products, ensuring scalability and resiliency.
- Champion technical best practices for productivity and high quality in execution
- Guide partnership with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., Product manager, technical lead) to determine user requirements within and across teams in areas of ownership

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

​​- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 9+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
- 6+ years of experience building commercial grade software, with experience in mission-critical cloud applications, large scale, high availability services.
- 1+ years of experience building full stack applications
- 3+ years of Experience as a technical leading capacity with a passion for coaching and mentoring others​​.

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

​​​​Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience. ​
