Job Description

Oracle is looking for a Principal Software Developer to help build and operate cloud services that manage a worldwide fleet of thousands of Kubernetes clusters. This role is for an experienced engineer who can take ownership of production services, lead technical design, and build reliable distributed systems for the deployment, delivery, and operation of SaaS applications.

As a senior member of the team, you will own and shape orchestration services, automation frameworks, control-plane APIs, and Kubernetes-based capabilities that application teams rely on to deploy, upgrade, and operate software safely at scale. The systems you build coordinate desired state, execute long-running workflows, manage cloud and cluster resources, and make large-scale operations safe, repeatable, and observable.

Ideal candidates have deep experience building and operating highly available, secure, cloud-native distributed systems across multiple regions. They are comfortable setting technical direction, raising engineering standards, mentoring other engineers, and driving ambiguous, high-impact work from design through production.

The team is primarily remote and distributed across the US, India, and Europe. Communication is often asynchronous, so strong written communication, clear documentation, observability, and operational discipline are essential.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, monitor, and operate production cloud services in a "you build it, you run it" engineering model
  • Own services end to end, including requirements, architecture, implementation, rollout, operations, troubleshooting, and ongoing support
  • Build clear APIs, reliable reconciliation logic, scalable data models, upgrade-safe workflows, and automation for large-scale cloud operations
  • Improve code quality, reliability, scalability, security, observability, and operational excellence across production systems
  • Lead technical design discussions, guide architectural decisions, and mentor engineers through complex design and implementation work
  • Partner with engineering teams to simplify deployment, delivery, upgrade, and operational workflows for SaaS applications

Qualifications:

  • Strong software design and development skills, with experience building production services in Go, Scala, Java, or similar languages
  • Experience designing, building, and operating distributed systems at scale
  • Demonstrated ownership of production services, including reliability, observability, debugging, incident response, operations, and continuous improvement
  • Experience designing APIs and service contracts for developer-facing or operations-facing platforms
  • Experience with cloud-native development patterns, containerized services, and Kubernetes-based production environments
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure; OCI experience preferred
  • Experience with workflow orchestration, lifecycle management, and infrastructure automation; Temporal, Terraform, or Helm experience is a plus
  • Understanding of secure development practices and commitment to quality, testable code
  • Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity while maintaining ownership of design decisions, implementation quality, and code review
  • Ability to set technical direction, lead design discussions, and mentor other engineers
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • 7+ years of software development experience
  • Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience
