Our client is a Singapore-based deep tech startup that specializes in the digital transformation of remote and distributed industrial assets through the integration of Internet of Things (IoT) hardware and artificial intelligence.
As they continue to grow, they are expanding their engineering team and are seeking a highly experienced and technically strong Principal Engineer to join their organization. This is a key opportunity for a senior engineer who enjoys working in complex, fast-paced environments and is passionate about building and scaling enterprise-grade IoT and AI-driven systems. It is ideal for someone who thrives on solving challenging technical problems and working across multidisciplinary teams to deliver impactful solutions.
In this role, you will lead technical direction through architectural decisions, mentoring engineers, and promoting best practices across the organization. You will collaborate with data scientists, SMEs, and executive stakeholders to translate complex requirements into practical technical solutions, while also contributing hands-on to backend development, APIs, databases, and system integrations as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Creation of our platform architecture integrating front-end, back-end and AI services
• Full stack software development including:
o Development of Python backend services
o Timeseries DB (postgres)
• Mentoring and guiding Jr. Software Engineers
• Ensuring that code quality standards are upheld and defining new ones as needed
• Driving the conversation and adoption of best architectural and development practices
• Working with internal subject matter experts and data scientists to understand development requirements
• Interpreting product requirements into platform architectures
• Driving consensus of architectural decisions with all stakeholders
• Presenting architectures to executive stakeholders
• Creating implementation plans in collaboration with our program manager
• As needed communication with customers to explain our solution platform and identify new requirements
Requirements
• BS or above in Computer Science, Data Science, AI Engineering or technical equivalent.
• 15+ years of software development experience, preferably in enterprise or platform-level systems
• Strong experience in web application architecture and solution design (core priority)
• 5+ years experience in Python backend development (Flask, Django, or FastAPI preferred)
• Strong experience in system architecture and decision-making across full stack components (backend, APIs, database, and front-end coordination)
• Experience designing and working on enterprise-grade platforms or scalable distributed systems
• Strong cloud architecture experience (AWS preferred)
• Solid understanding of databases (preferably PostgreSQL or similar)
• Strong ability to lead technical discussions and make architectural decisions
• Experience working with cross-functional teams and translating business requirements into technical solutions
• Strong communication skills and ability to explain complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Hands-on mindset with willingness to write production code, not just review or design
• Experience in mentoring or guiding engineers (technical leadership, not people management)
Advantageous Experience/Skills:
• Experience with AI systems, AI architecture, or machine learning integration
• Exposure to Industrial IoT or edge-to-cloud telemetry systems
• Experience with on-premise infrastructure alongside cloud (hybrid environments)
• Front-end exposure (React or similar frameworks, but not required)
• Experience with real-time or batch streaming systems
• Experience with DevOps practices or CI/CD pipelines
• Experience with IoT platforms in any industry domain (bonus if water/process industry)
• Experience working with large-scale system optimization or performance tuning
• Experience in regulated environments or compliance frameworks (e.g., ISO standards exposure)
