Job Description

Lead with Purpose, Unlock Your Team’s Passion

At LPL Financial, people leaders and technical leaders alike shape how we innovate, collaborate, and deliver value. When you lead with intention—through influence, expertise, and integrity—you help transform not just platforms, but experiences for advisors and clients nationwide. If you’re ready to lead at scale and drive meaningful transformation, LPL Financial invites you to apply.

Are you passionate about modernizing legacy systems and building cloud‑native platforms that power critical financial processes? Do you thrive at the intersection of data engineering, architecture, and business transformation? Join LPL Financial’s Compensation Transformation Program and play a pivotal role in redefining how compensation is calculated, validated, and delivered across the enterprise.

LPL Financial is seeking a VP, Principal Engineer / Tech Lead to design and deliver modern, cloud‑based data and application capabilities that transform enterprise compensation processing. In this role, you will provide hands‑on technical leadership across data pipelines, event‑driven workflows, and cloud architecture—ensuring scalability, resiliency, transparency, and automation.

You will partner closely with architects, product teams, compensation subject‑matter experts, and engineering teams to modernize end‑to‑end compensation systems using AWS‑native services and Python‑driven data pipelines.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement end‑to‑end cloud data pipelines supporting compensation ingestion, calculation, validation, and downstream distribution

  • Build and maintain ETL/ELT workflows using Python, AWS Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, and S3

  • Architect and develop event‑driven workflows leveraging AWS EventBridge, SQS, and SNS

  • Implement data quality, reconciliation, auditing, and monitoring capabilities to ensure accuracy and integrity of compensation data

  • Partner with architects and product teams to modernize legacy compensation platforms into scalable, cloud‑native solutions

  • Work with relational databases (RDS/Postgres/SQL Server) for data modeling, transformation, and performance optimization

  • Apply CI/CD and DevOps best practices to automate build, test, and deployment processes

  • Troubleshoot complex production issues and drive root‑cause resolution under tight timelines

  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to business stakeholders, compensation SMEs, and cross‑functional partners

  • Identify opportunities to improve transparency, scalability, and automation across compensation workflows

What Are We Looking For?

We’re looking for a collaborative, technically strong leader who thrives in fast‑paced environments and enjoys transforming complex, rules‑driven systems. You bring a deep sense of ownership, a passion for cloud and data engineering, and a commitment to delivering high‑quality, resilient solutions that support LPL’s advisor‑centered mission.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience designing and delivering complex enterprise systems
  • 7+ years of hands‑on data engineering experience using Python and SQL
  • Strong experience with AWS services including Glue, Lambda, EventBridge, RDS, and S3
  • Proven ability to design scalable, event‑driven and cloud‑native architectures
  • Experience with CI/CD, DevOps practices, and modern software engineering standards

Core Competencies

  • Cloud and data architecture leadership

  • Systems thinking and problem solving

  • Cross‑functional collaboration and stakeholder communication

  • Technical mentorship and influence

  • Continuous improvement mindset

Preferences

  • Experience with .NET, C#, JavaScript, Angular, or API development

  • Experience with Snowflake or modern cloud data warehouses

  • Background in compensation, payroll, financial calculations, or rules‑driven systems

  • Familiarity with Jira, TeamCity, or Octopus Deploy
