
ABOUT THE POSITION
The Principal Software Analyst identifies and clarifies business and users needs and aligns solutions to meet them. Supports and maintains software-as-a-service (SaaS), packaged software, and/or enterprise-wide applications. This person maps business processes to application(s) to best deliver value and maximize application functionality. The role performs configuration, setup, and updates of the application, as well as manages access control. This person builds and produces reporting for business needs. The role recommends changes in application development, maintenance and system standards.
Scope of delivery is for a single team. Sphere of influence is within own team and peer teams within the same domain or capability area to lead and influence solid design and seamless integration.
HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Contribute to and help refine the team's backlog to capture work that promotes the team's mission and advances business goals. Drive alignment on prioritization across teams. Orchestrate prioritization (i.e. RICE, WSJF, etc.) across business and technology.
As needed, own roadmap visibility and maintenance to ensure they reflect value, feasibility, and timing. Set documentation standards and ensure completeness. Maintain traceability across requirements, decisions, and outcomes.
Partner with peer engineers and delivery managers to lead the team in breaking down larger bodies of work into smaller, well understood items that can be acomplished in a single iteration. Ensure stories have clear understood value and defined acceptance criteria.
Communicate with key partner/dependent teams to understand scope of planned work and translate to impact to own team. Partner with delivery managers in the domain to inform priortization, identify dependencies, and influence the roadmap.
YOU ARE
System Configuration: Responsible for the design, configuration, testing, monitoring, and support of a platform or application to deliver business value and maximize capabilities of the system. Keep applications current by staying abreast of new releases, features, add-ins, etc. Explore and/or optimizes application integrations. Setup and manage system users through role-based authorization. Build deep subject matter knowledge for an entire domain or capability area, where one or many applications may be leveraged. Define, develop, and enforces standards where applicable.
Quality & Performance: Ensure new features/functions are tested thoroughly, inclusive of integrations and end-to-end process flows. Leverage automation to accomplish repeatable tasks where possible and appropriate. Facilitate user acceptance testing when applicable. Troubleshoot and fix bugs where applicable.
Observability: Leverage best practices, technologies, and instrumentation to monitor and observe health, availability, and performance of software in production and to inform roadmap/backlog improvements. Partner with the team and peers across teams to diagnose performance issues found in monitoring. Identify and implement new monitoring and proactive alerting mechanisms to inform the team of issues before problems reach consumers/stakeholders.
Technical Skills: Navigate application data programmatically to inform decisions (such as via SQL or scripting languages). Communicate and collaborate with other engineers about technical topics. Adept at moving around data without the help of others on the team.
YOU HAVE
Participate in team's delivery ceremonies.
Lead cross-functional collaboration across engineering, QA, and business partners, and help drive collaboration within the team through practices such as pair programming with peer Software Engineers. Shape messaging for execs and business leaders. Facilitate alignment and clarity across business and tech. Anticipate and address stakeholder concerns proactively.
Partner with business stakeholders to ensure application changes are delivered in a way that can be adopted by business users to create value for the organization. Ensure business users are trained appropriately to take advantage of the change
Actively seek ways to drive continuous improvement within team.
Bring structure to complex problem-solving.
Lead team through resolution of blockers, and implementation of new practices identified as part of team's continuous improvement goals.
Champion the use of data in decision-making across capability. Partner with data/analytics teams to define relevant KPIs. Use metrics to challenge assumptions and adjust delivery strategies
Drive documentation as a product that supports delivery and maintenance
Architecture & Design: Partner with peer Engineers and Solution Architects to understand and adopt enterprise patterns and technology goals by informing on the needs of the business area. Assist with tool selection and implementation (as appropriate) to deliver cost effective solutions that drive the right business value. Create and maintain accurate business process design documents (as needed) and support playbooks.
Mentoring/Team Development: Mentor individuals in the team to help build application and subject matter expertise in the business delivery area. Lead through direction, example, and by creating opportunities for others to learn. Coach others on effective tech-team coordination.
Vendor Engagement (as applicable): Partner with vendors on implementations, software updates, validation, support, etc. Make recommendations around adoption of new incoming solutions.
