ABOUT THE POSITION

At Columbia Sportswear, our Digital Technology (CDT) team plays a critical role in enabling global operations through robust, scalable systems.

As a Principal SAP ABAP Engineer, you will serve as a senior technical leader and hands-on contributor within our SAP development organization. Based in our India Global Capability Center, this role collaborates closely with globally distributed teams and plays a key role in delivering high-quality SAP solutions while upholding global coding, documentation, and engineering standards.

This role is accountable for technical excellence, mentoring and coaching ABAP developers, influencing design decisions, and ensuring consistent application of global development standards across the SAP landscape.

HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Technical Delivery

  • Design, develop, test, and deliver complex ABAP enhancements, interfaces, reports, and forms
  • Perform technical unit testing and ensure solutions meet functional and non-functional requirements
  • Debug and resolve complex issues across custom code, enhancements, and integrations
  • Create and maintain high-quality technical specification and design documentation aligned with global standards

Technical Leadership & Standards

  • Serve as a technical authority for ABAP development practices within the GCC
  • Review code written by other developers and provide constructive, actionable feedback
  • Ensure adherence to global standards for coding, documentation, testing, and transport management
  • Influence architectural and design decisions to improve scalability, performance, and maintainability
  • Drive continuous improvement and adoption of best practices across the ABAP codebase

Mentorship & Collaboration

  • Mentor and coach junior and mid-level ABAP developers to accelerate technical and professional growth
  • Guide developers on problem-solving approaches, design patterns, and SAP best practices
  • Promote knowledge sharing and technical skill development within the ABAP community
  • Work closely with functional consultants, architects, and global SAP teams to clarify requirements and deliver effective solutions

Collaborate across time zones with global stakeholders in a fast-paced delivery environment

YOU ARE

  • 7–10 years of hands-on SAP ABAP development experience in real-world implementations
  • Implementation experience in one or more SAP modules: P2P, R2R, O2C
  • Deep expertise in ABAP Objects and modern ABAP programming conventions
  • AFS experience highly preferred
  • Multiple full lifecycle SAP implementations (design, build, test, deployment, hyper care)
  • Proven delivery of complex enhancements, custom reports, and interfaces
  • Strong experience with SmartForms and SAPscript
  • Deep debugging expertise and enhancement framework experience
  • Strong experience working with complex SAP integrations
  • Architectural literacy across SAP ECC and peripheral systems (e.g., BW, Microsoft Azure)
  • Ability to work independently, think critically, and proactively clarify requirements
  • Strong code review and mentoring capabilities
  • Excellent written and spoken English

YOU HAVE

  • Experience with custom IDocs, IDoc extensions, and IDoc user exits
  • Experience with customer exits (CMOD, SMOD)
  • Experience with classic BAdIs (SE18, SE19)
  • Experience with enhancement points
  • Experience with Screen Painter, screen exits, and menu exits
  • Experience with Jira and Confluence
  • Exposure to SAP BTP development is a plus
