As a Principal Engineer focused on power, your work will shape power architectures, influence long-term technology roadmaps, and directly impact efficiency, performance, reliability, scalability, and cost across multiple product lines.

We are seeking a Principal R&D Hardware Design Engineer (Power) to join our hardware design organization, working on advanced networking systems where power conversion, power distribution, power integrity, thermal constraints, and system-level trade-offs are business-critical.

This role is for engineers who want to lead technically, mentor broadly, and see their power architecture and circuit designs shipped at global scale.

HOW YOU’LL MAKE AN IMPACT

As a Principal R&D Hardware Design Engineer (Power), you will act as a technical authority for power architecture, power circuit design, and board-level power distribution, influencing designs well beyond your immediate deliverables.

You will:

• Define and own power architecture and power distribution strategies for complex, high-performance networking platforms across multiple product generations.
• Design and optimize AC-DC and DC-DC power solutions, including voltage regulators, multiphase converters, hot-swap circuits, protection circuits, sequencing, monitoring, and control.
• Translate system requirements, load profiles, transient behavior, thermal limits, reliability targets, and cost constraints into robust power designs with appropriate margin.
• Drive component selection and design trade-offs across efficiency, density, transient response, noise, thermal performance, reliability, availability, manufacturability, and cost.
• Partner with system architects, board designers, signal and power integrity engineers, mechanical and thermal teams, firmware, validation, manufacturing, suppliers, and program leadership across global sites.
• Lead power design reviews, simulation, schematic development, bring-up, characterization, compliance testing, and complex root-cause investigations from concept through production.
• Establish power design standards, reference circuits, modeling practices, derating guidelines, and reusable solutions that improve quality and execution across programs.
• Mentor senior engineers, guide technical decision-making, and raise power design capability across the organization.

About You

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• 10+ years of experience designing power circuits and power distribution systems for complex electronic products or hardware platforms.
• Demonstrated ability to define power architecture and make system-level trade-offs involving efficiency, density, transient response, thermal performance, reliability, and cost.
• Proven track record of solving ambiguous, high-impact power design, bring-up, validation, and field issues.
• Recognized technical leader who influences power design direction beyond a single team or project.
• Deep expertise in power conversion and distribution, including DC-DC converters, multiphase regulators, hot-swap and protection circuits, sequencing, telemetry, and board-level power delivery.
• Extensive hands-on experience with power simulation, measurement, validation, and characterization, including efficiency, stability, ripple, noise, transient response, thermal performance, and fault behavior.
• Advanced schematic and board-level design experience using Cadence OrCAD and Allegro, with strong understanding of PCB layout practices for high-current and noise-sensitive power circuits.

• Ability to operate independently at a Principal level, making high-impact technical decisions with minimal oversight.
• Strong cross-organizational influence and relationship-building skills, including effective collaboration with silicon vendors, power suppliers, and manufacturing partners.
• Exceptional communication skills, able to articulate power architecture, defend technical trade-offs, and influence senior engineering and management stakeholders.
• Self-motivated, strategic thinker with strong listening and mentoring capabilities, and a commitment to improving power design standards, methods, and reusable solutions.
