About the team

We're the Goals & Projects team. Goals is where an organization sets its objectives and tracks progress against them. Projects is where a team describes a piece of work and reports on how it's going, separate from the Jira space where the individual work items live. Together they connect what a team is working on to the organization's overarching goals.

Both apps are included with every Atlassian cloud plan, and some of their more advanced capabilities are part of Strategy Collection. They show up where teams already work, inside Atlassian Home, Jira, Confluence, Rovo, Focus or Talent, so a lot of what we ship we build with the teams who own those surfaces. Our customers range from the teams doing and tracking the work to the leaders and admins who need to see how it's progressing across a large organization. We're light on process and heavy on trust.

Responsibilities

About the role

As a Principal Product Manager on Goals & Projects, you'll own a major product area spanning both apps, from vision through launch and iteration. This is an individual contributor role.

Two areas are moving quickly right now. We're transforming both apps with AI, and we're using that to reach more of Atlassian's customer base than we have before.

You'll work on problems where the answer isn't obvious yet: how organizations set objectives and see honest progress against them, how a team's work becomes legible to the rest of the company without manual reporting, and where AI helps in that loop. You'll make principled trade-offs between staying consistent with the rest of Atlassian and moving quickly in Goals and Projects, and set the standard for product thinking on the team.

Responsibilities include:

• Set the vision, strategy, roadmap, and measurable outcomes for a major product area spanning Goals and Projects, aligned with Atlassian's wider product and AI strategy.
• Drive the AI roadmap for Goals and Projects, deciding where AI genuinely helps the people using these apps and setting the quality bar for what it produces.
• Shape ambiguous opportunities with lightweight specs, prototypes, and clear written narratives.
• Own the administration and governance capabilities that large, complex organizations need, including permissions, roles, and audit.
• Run discovery directly with the teams, leaders, and admins who use these apps, and separate what they ask for from what they need.
• Drive cross-functional execution across Engineering, Design, Research, and Analytics, and align senior stakeholders when priorities compete.
• Work with the Atlassian product teams who own the surfaces these apps appear in, and settle the open questions with them directly.
• Make the hard calls on defaults, rollout, and migration paths, grounded in data, customer evidence, and the effects on admins and end users.
• Partner with go-to-market teams on launches, documentation, positioning, and measurement.
• Know how the apps are performing across usage, adoption, retention, and satisfaction, investigate the changes, and use what you learn to steer the roadmap.
• Influence product direction beyond your immediate team, and mentor other product managers.

Qualifications

What we're looking for

• 7+ years of product management experience, including ownership of a significant product area at scale.
• A track record of delivering outcomes across multiple related products or teams.
• Experience shipping AI-powered experiences to real customers, with a point of view on where AI helps.
• Proven success shipping in ambiguity: you've taken a 0-to-1 or direction-changing initiative from strategy through launch and iteration.
• The ability to clarify complex decisions and align senior stakeholders without relying on formal authority.
• You use AI tools daily as a working method. You can prompt, iterate, and evaluate AI outputs to draft specs, analyze data, synthesize research, and build prototypes.
• Technical fluency to work effectively with senior engineers on product and architectural trade-offs.
• Strong customer discovery, synthesis, prioritization, and written communication skills.
• Comfort operating in ambiguity and making pragmatic trade-offs without lowering the quality bar that large customers expect.

Nice to have

• Product experience in work management, enterprise planning, or portfolio management.
• Experience making a product succeed inside a larger platform, through cross-app integration or shared data models.
• Experience with enterprise administration surfaces such as permissions models, admin controls, and audit.
