About Pearson

At Pearson, we are committed to helping people make progress in their lives through learning. We create innovative and accessible educational products and services that foster personal and professional growth. We are looking for a passionate and skilled Senior Product Manager to join our team and drive the development of cutting-edge educational products.

About the Job We embrace an SVPG-inspired Product Operating Model, empowering our product teams to solve hard problems – customer problems and business problems – in ways that our customers love, yet work for our business. Product companies depend on strong products, and strong products come from strong product teams. And we recognise that product teams are only as strong as their product managers.

The Product Excellence team brings together exceptional product managers and leaders to tackle Pearson's most complex challenges, while transforming how we build products. We're on a mission to create the capabilities, culture, and operating model that empower product teams to consistently deliver breakthrough outcomes for learners and the business.

We're seeking an innovative Principle Product Manager to support innovation and acceleration initiatives across our product portfolio, with some likely focus on AI related features. This hands-on role combines technical expertise with product management execution and a coaching mindset. You'll run sprints with internal teams and start-ups, build prototypes and features with engineering teams, also helping develop business cases and integration roadmaps. This role requires flexibility between hands-on execution with practitioner credibility as well as coaching, facilitation and teaching of colleagues on product management practices, discovery, technical modernisation, and ways of working.

Key Responsibilities

AI & Technical Product Delivery

  • Run sprints with internal and external engineering teams, to drive AI innovation and rapid experimentation with a data driven, learning hungry mindset
  • Build working product prototypes and features in collaboration with engineering teams
  • Develop compelling business cases and integration roadmaps for AI initiatives
  • Help teams solve complex technical challenges and drive modernisation efforts

Product Management Excellence

  • Coach teams on product management best practices, discovery methods, and ways of working
  • Facilitate discovery sessions and help teams integrate discovery into their backlogs, helping teams manage parallel tracks of discovery and execution
  • Guide teams in developing high-quality MRDs, PRDs, and refining work into shippable iterations
  • Flex between hands-on execution and coaching to build team capabilities

Collaboration & Enablement

  • Embed into business units to support customer-centric roadmaps and strategic planning
  • Role model interactions with engineering, design and other stakeholders
  • Help enable the change to new ways of working and practices that make a difference

Process & Practice Development

  • Help teams refine work into reasonable chunks and maintain effective backlogs
  • Support continuous process improvement and practice optimization
  • Identify and implement practices to optimize product development cycles

Required Qualifications

  • 5/6+ years of product management experience with demonstrable technical and/or AI/ML exposure
  • Strong technical background or proven ability to work effectively with engineering teams
  • Track record shipping technical products and building prototypes
  • Experience with agile methodologies and running product sprints, with a strongly data driven mindset
  • Understanding of implementation of AI/ML technologies and modern product development practices
  • Excellent coaching and communication skills with ability to influence without authority

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with generative AI, LLMs, or emerging AI technologies
  • Background working with startups, innovation teams, or in fast-paced environments
  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field
  • Experience in learning technologies or educational product development
  • Strong analytical and conceptual problem-solving capabilities

What You'll Love About This Role

  • Direct impact on AI-powered educational experiences reaching millions of learners
  • Opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies while developing your coaching skills
  • Collaborative environment with world-class product teams and leaders
  • Significant growth potential within a transformation-focused team
  • Balance of hands-on execution and strategic capability building
