We are partnering with a leading healthcare technology company to hire a Principal, Product & Data Security Engineer. This organization — launched in January 2025 — provides the technology backbone and digital capabilities for nonprofit, community, and regional health plans nationwide. It is part of a family of companies under a nonprofit parent entity that also includes a major California-based health plan and a clinical services company. Operating with a full-stack developer mindset, you will act as a foundational technical leader on a small, elite team driving security automation from "crawl" to "run." You will be responsible for embedding Secure-by-Design and Private-by-Design principles directly into the SDLC by building self-service, developer-native guardrails. You do not review code manually; you design programmatic systems that make insecure or non-compliant code impossible to merge.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Secure SDLC & Pipeline Acceleration: Design and maintain programmatic SAST, SCA, and schema validation patterns within heavily automated CI/CD and GitOps environments, driving the acceleration of our security optimization.
Data Protection & AI Security: Build and maintain application-layer encryption, tokenization, and data security controls specifically tailored for modern cloud data platforms (Azure Synapse, Snowflake) and emerging AI integrations.
Azure-Native Guardrails: Codify security guardrails directly into Azure. Secure containerized environments ("containerized health plans") and cloud-native apps by default.
Data Loss Prevention (DLP): Implement source-level PHI/PII and secret detection to block sensitive data from ever entering source control or artifacts.
Identity & API Security: Define non-negotiable Layer 7 standards, automate OpenAPI linting, and strictly codify IAM and code-based access controls to prevent over-exposure.
QUALIFICATIONS
10+ years of progressive software engineering and application security experience, with a proven track record operating at a Principal/Architect level.
Full-Stack Developer Mindset: Deep programmatic framework knowledge with hands-on experience building out cloud-native applications across the entire SDLC. Must understand the "why" and "what" behind security controls.
Azure Cloud Ecosystem Mastery: Illustrated, hands-on experience securing CI/CD pipelines and cloud-native apps, with a strong preference for the Azure ecosystem to limit the learning curve.
Modern Data & AI Security: Deep expertise in securing high-volume data pipelines and modern data warehousing (e.g., Azure Synapse, Snowflake), alongside practical experience securing AI implementations.
Advanced Automation & Containerization: Demonstrated ability to codify IAM/code-based access and secure containerized architectures, moving far beyond traditional legacy "enterprise security" manual controls.
Success Measures
• ≥90% of repos protected by automated DLP and secret scanning
• 100% APIs conforming to standardized auth and transport patterns
• Measurable reduction in high/critical application-layer findings
