Job Description

We are working closely with a local authority in Shropshire to assist with the appointment of a Principal Planning Officer ,on a 1- month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay £38.71- £54.00 per hour



Principal Planning Officer to play a key leadership role within Shropshire Council's Development Management Team. The successful candidate will oversee the delivery of an effective development control service across a designated area of the county, managing a complex caseload of planning applications while providing professional leadership, technical expertise, and line management support to Planning Officers.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a complex caseload of major planning and associated applications from submission through to determination.
  • Present complex planning applications to Planning Committee and act as the lead professional planning officer where required.
  • Deputise for the Area Planning Manager in managerial, supervisory, and operational responsibilities when necessary.
  • Support the preparation and implementation of the Local Development Plan by identifying and evaluating development needs.
  • Ensure compliance with planning legislation, Council policies, corporate governance, and statutory requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Degree or postgraduate qualification in Town Planning or a closely related discipline.
  • Chartered membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) or eligibility to obtain chartered status.

Essentials:

  • Significant experience managing complex planning applications within a Development Management environment.
  • Experience preparing and presenting reports to Planning Committees and other decision-making bodies.
  • Experience supervising, mentoring, or line managing professional planning staff.
