About This Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Principal Project Coordinator to support the growing activities of the BASE mRNA Facility. In this role, you will work closely with scientists, external partners and internal stakeholders across Australia to coordinate mRNA projects from initial enquiry through to successful delivery. Operating in a dynamic, time‑critical environment, you will play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered to a high standard while supporting the Facility’s strategic growth, profile and impact. Guided by UQ’s purpose of creating change together, you will contribute to work that enables cutting‑edge research and the development of next‑generation mRNA medicines.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating end‑to‑end aspects of the mRNA project lifecycle, including enquiries, sales, ordering, manufacture coordination and delivery milestones.
  • Managing project schedules, logistics and quality processes to ensure timely, high‑quality outcomes for clients and stakeholders.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with external customers and internal teams, supporting effective communication, planning and evaluation of projects.
  • Supporting BASE leadership through project reporting, advice and contributions to strategy, marketing and communication initiatives that enhance the Facility’s national profile.

About You

You will be an agile and experienced project management professional who thrives in complex, high‑pressure environments and brings a strong service mindset.

You will bring:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in biomedical, pharmaceutical or life sciences, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and training.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management and coordination, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver outcomes to tight deadlines.
  • Current knowledge of best‑practice project management methodologies and frameworks, with a flexible and solutions‑focused approach.
  • Proven capability in project planning, problem solving and applying sound judgement to provide accurate and consistent advice.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills, with high attention to detail.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills, including experience contributing to reports, communications or marketing materials.
  • Experience working in a service role or research services facility, and/or experience in sales, marketing or communications, is desirable.

About BASE

The BASE Facility is located at the Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN) at The University of Queensland. BASE is one of Australia’s leading national facilities for mRNA-LNP research and manufacturing. We help Australian scientists develop new mRNA-LNP medicines by providing end-to-end services for the design, manufacture, and formulation of mRNA. Our research laboratories, which focus on the development of new mRNA medicines and technologies, are based at AIBN on UQ’s St Lucia campus, with dedicated production facilities located at the Translational Research Institute (TRI).
