Job Description

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full Time Principal Detailer - Transmission Tower Details (High Voltage) for our Noida / Bengaluru / Mumbai office. Be involved in projects with our Energy Sector Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

The successful candidate is required to work within a multi-discipline team to design efficient and reliable 765 kV HVAC transmission transmission lattice towers and transmission lines. The engineer will coordinate their design activities to maintain project schedules and ensure successful project completion. This position is accountable to provide all design activities in accordance with all applicable codes and standards, including all of WSP's policies and procedures, such as Safety, Environmental, Quality Assurance and Quality Control.

  • Serve as a Principal Detailer for high-voltage HVAC lattice transmission towers, supporting new tower designs, modifications, upgrades, rebuilds, and asset replacement projects.
  • Develop and oversee detailed lattice tower models, fabrication drawings, assembly and erection drawings, member and connection details, bolt schedules, material bundle lists, and bills of material (BOM).
  • Prepare and validate design and construction deliverables, including 2D/3D CADD models, fabrication packages, construction drawings, and as-built documentation.
  • Use AutoCAD, MicroStation, Bocad, and other applicable detailing tools to develop accurate tower models and drawings.
  • Review engineering calculations, design drawings, specifications, and as-built information to ensure accurate detailing and identify design discrepancies.
  • Coordinate with transmission line and structural engineers, project teams, steel fabricators, contractors, and construction personnel to resolve technical, fabrication, and constructability issues.
  • Develop detailing solutions for member orientation, connections, splices, foundation interfaces, fabrication limitations, and constructability requirements.
  • Perform and oversee QA/QC reviews of tower models, drawings, fabrication packages, erection plans, and material documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
  • Ensure detailing complies with applicable ASCE, AISC, NESC, utility/client standards, safety requirements, and established industry practices.
  • Serve as a technical resource and provide guidance and mentorship to junior detailers and designers, including detailing practices, CADD/Bocad modeling, drawing standards, and QA/QC procedures.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 10+ years of relevant post-education experience in transmission lattice tower detailng
  • Experience with steel transmission lattice tower detailing at 345 kV HVAC voltage-level.
  • Expert working experience with the following U.S. Codes: ASCE 10, ASCE Manual 74, NESC.
  • Advanced knowledge of lattice transmission tower detailing, drafting principles, fabrication practices, and construction requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently detail complete lattice towers in 3D software such as Bocad or Tekla, including members, connections, bolts, fabrication drawings, erection drawings, and BOMs.
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable codes, standards, utility requirements, and fabrication specifications for lattice steel transmission structures.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings drafted in imperial units, and technical specifications.
  • Strong understanding of 50+ year old structural steel detailing, connection geometry, member orientation, bolt arrangements, tolerances, fit-up, and constructability.
  • Ability to perform technical calculations involving geometry, dimensions, tolerances, and material quantities required for tower detailing.
  • Strong QA/QC, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve detailing, fabrication, and constructability issues.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills when working with engineers, detailers, fabricators, contractors, and other project team members.
  • Ability to work independently, mentor junior detailers, manage multiple priorities, and deliver accurate work within project schedules.
