Job Description

Looking for a senior-level Instrument Engineer to take ownership of instrumentation and control systems across large-scale capital projects in a complex industrial environment. This role sits at the center of engineering, construction, and operations—driving quality, safety, and performance from detailed design through startup.

You’ll act as the technical authority for instrumentation and control systems, ensuring all deliverables meet strict regulatory standards, project requirements, and industry best practices.

What You’ll Own

  • Lead QA/QC for all instrumentation and control system deliverables across EPC phases (design → commissioning → startup)
  • Ensure instrumentation design meets contractual, regulatory, and operational standards
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on integrated control systems, including:
    • Distributed Control Systems (DCS/BPCS)
    • Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)
    • Fire & Gas Systems (FGS)
  • Partner closely with operations teams to troubleshoot issues and support system performance
  • Drive alignment across multi-discipline engineering teams in a matrix environment
  • Review and approve:
    • Engineering specs, datasheets, and design packages
    • Vendor documentation and procurement packages
    • Instrument drawings and as-built documentation
  • Participate in FATs and SATs, including occasional domestic/international travel
  • Support HAZOP/HAZID reviews, alarm management, and process safety initiatives
  • Evaluate contractor performance, ensure schedule adherence, and support change order reviews
  • Contribute to post-startup optimization and continuous improvement efforts

What You Bring

  • Deep expertise in process control and instrumentation within complex industrial environments (LNG, petrochemical, or similar)
  • Strong working knowledge of integrated control systems (DCS, SIS, FGS)
  • Proven experience supporting large-scale capital projects and EPC contractors
  • Hands-on understanding of control narratives, interlocks, and system safety design
  • Ability to operate as a technical leader across engineering, operations, vendors, and contractors
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities
  • Experience with system tuning, alarm management, and control optimization

Preferred Background

  • 15+ years in process control/automation engineering
  • Experience with Honeywell or similar DCS platforms
  • Background in high-hazard or highly regulated industrial environments

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Instrumentation, Electrical, Mechanical, Process, or related)

Work Environment & Travel

  • Based in the gulf coast area south of Houston - with regular travel to operational facilities and project sites
  • Occasional travel to vendor locations (domestic and international)
  • Exposure to both office and industrial plant environments (PPE required as needed)

What Sets This Role Apart

  • Direct impact on large-scale, high-visibility capital projects
  • True ownership of instrumentation strategy and execution
  • High-level collaboration with operations, engineering leadership, and contractors
  • Opportunity to influence system performance, safety, and long-term reliability
