Job Description

Our Lady of Mount Carmel School, located in Essex, Maryland, is seeking a qualified full‑time principal to begin in the 2026–2027 academic year. The principal’s highest priority is building a Catholic community of faith in which the Catholic Christian message and the experiences of community, worship, service, and social concern are fully integrated. Additionally, a paramount responsibility is promoting and facilitating student learning of the highest quality. The principal reports to the president and has primary responsibility for providing instructional leadership.

Essential Functions

  • Oversees the appraisal process for faculty.
  • Serves as staff to the Board of Trustees on the Strategic Planning Committee.
  • Provides leadership for all members of the school community that reflects Gospel values.
  • Assists the President and works cooperatively with members of the administrative team in school planning and to enhance the Catholic mission.

Position Qualifications

  • Must respect the Catholic faith and tradition and commits to the mission and philosophy of St. Mary’s High School of Annapolis.
  • Has successful teaching and administrative experience at the secondary level, a Master's degree in education, and leads in the formulation of academic policies, curriculum development.
  • Supervises the instructional program, including AP, STEM, and other specialty programs.
  • Is a visionary instructional leader who promotes the educational development of students through effective supervisory and administrative skills in addition to planning, organizing, and assessing faculty in both service and professional development.
  • Must be competent in the use of technology as an integral tool for instruction.
  • Possesses strong communication and collaborative skills in working with all constituents, and provides leadership for the school's parent groups.
  • Has experience in strategic planning and with the Middle States accreditation process.
  • Collaborates with the President and Director of Institutional Advancement to maintain positive public relations with various constituent groups, the greater public, and prospective parents.
  • Provides leadership for all members of the school community that reflect Gospel values and cores values of the Archdiocese of Baltimore.
  • Practicing Catholic, fully able to model Christian values and adhere to the teachings of the church and participate in the sacramental life of the Church.
