Primary Duties and Responsibilities


The Principal Food Service Worker (Tray Service Associate) supports patient meal service operations by assembling and delivering meals in accordance with prescribed diet orders and established sanitation standards. This role ensures patients receive accurate, timely meals while maintaining a clean and organized work environment. Responsibilities include assisting patients with menu selections, assembling trays, distributing meals, collecting trays after service, and delivering snacks as needed. The Tray Service Associate plays an important role in supporting patient satisfaction, food safety, and overall hospital operations.
Salary Range: 21.05-25.64/hr
Effective 06/22/2025, employees represented by the AFSCME Union will receive a minimum wage of $25.


Job Qualifications

  • Prior experience in food service, including tray assembly, meal service, or general food service operations.

  • Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions in English, including identifying food items and menu selections accurately.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced tray assembly environment.

  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations without the use of a calculator.

  • Basic knowledge and understanding of therapeutic and modified diets.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact professionally with co-workers, medical staff, patients, supervisors, and management.

  • Ability to comply with department dress code requirements.

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive movements, including bending, stretching, reaching, walking, pushing, and lifting.

  • Ability to lift and push heavy carts as required.

  • Willingness to attend and complete required departmental training sessions.
