Job Description

Microsoft Cloud Hardware Infrastructure Engineering (CHIE) Firmware CoE team is responsible for design and development of Server and Rack Infrastructure Firmware for Microsoft's online services. We work closely with Microsoft product groups, industry partners and researchers to architect and develop server hardware solutions that meet the requirements for our cloud services platforms at the lowest possible cost of ownership (TCO). We are team that is always learning, and insatiably curious, take risks and move quickly when we make mistakes, recognizing failure happens along the way to mastery. And we need to be open to the ideas of others, where the success of others does not diminish our own.

Contribute in RAS architecture, design and deployment of cloud scale Software and Firmware solutions that adapt to changing requirements over their lifetime.

Collaborate with hardware and software teams to define, firmware interactions etc and spec highly scalable and reliable solutions for cloud scale workloads. Lead and debug platform RAS feature validation.

Mentor a team of developers to architect and prototype solutions, using industry standard development of RAS flows, transitioning these to production-quality cloud-scale solutions

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the architecture and design of firmware technologies such as server Firmware, RAS, ACPI, PCIe, OS Primitives, etc. to deliver quality firmware.
  • Collaborate with hardware and software internal and external teams to define, architect and spec highly scalable and reliable solutions for cloud scale workloads.
  • Lead Cloud programs from RAS perspective i.e. developing RAS specification with RAS architecture team, develop test plan, test content, tools and infrastructure. Debug and solve cluster/fleet issues
  • Work across multiple disciplines and functions to drive platform innovation such as Azure engineering groups, Hardware, validation, ISV.
  • Firmware integration and validation of the firmware ingredients on specific platform SKU



Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • BS/MS in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field OR equivalent experience.
  • 12+ years of professional experience designing and developing embedded Firmware solutions or Server UEFI or BMC firmware, cloud server architecture
  • Proven and demonstrable skill in C, Python (Programming).
  • Strong technical communication skills (verbal and written) to interface with cross-functional technical teams within or outside of the organization.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Professional experience in Enterprise/Cloud Server hardware architecture, RAS features, understanding of HW/FW/OS interactions.
  • Enjoys new technological challenges and able to deal with ambiguity.
  • Good understanding on Cluster, Rack level interactions, telemetry aspects, SQL
  • Strong problem solving, debugging complex system level issues, advanced design, and development skills.
