Job Description

This is a hybrid position and must be located within 100 miles of a Mayo Clinic campus for occasional on-site expectations based on business needs.

The Enterprise Architecture organization is seeking four Principal Enterprise Architects to provide accountable architecture leadership across Mayo Clinic's most critical technology domains. Principal Enterprise Architects serve as the named architecture authority for their assigned area and are responsible for defining target-state architecture, multi-year roadmaps, architecture standards, decision frameworks, reference architectures, reusable patterns, and strategic technology direction. They work closely with business and technology leaders to guide major technology decisions and ensure alignment with enterprise priorities.

Principal Enterprise Architects are responsible for integrating architecture across multiple capabilities, technologies, and workstreams while maintaining alignment with enterprise architecture direction. Through architecture engagements, governance activities, technology planning, and modernization efforts, these leaders provide architecture oversight for significant initiatives, identify technology opportunities and dependencies, and help translate business and technology objectives into architecture direction and actionable roadmaps. They lead through influence, build trusted partnerships across the enterprise, and help develop the next generation of architecture talent.

The Principal Enterprise Architect is the accountable architecture authority for a major integrated business portfolio, enterprise technology platform, strategic transformation, or enterprise architecture discipline. The role owns target-state direction, multi-year roadmaps, integrated architecture models, decision frameworks, senior stakeholder relationships, architecture quality, and measurable outcomes for the assigned scope. Principal Enterprise Architects hold delegated final architecture authority within their charter, integrate multiple subdomains and workstreams, guide major investment and technology decisions, and provide functional leadership through influence rather than required direct-report responsibility.

Serves as the principal architecture advisor to senior business and technology leaders for the assigned major scope. Works laterally with other Principal architects, Distinguished specialty authorities, architecture and technology executives, people managers, portfolio and platform leaders, solution and domain architects, engineering, operations, information security, privacy, risk, data, procurement, finance, vendors, and delivery teams.
