About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen within our global MECoE Engineering team for a highly capable and experienced technical engineer.

Reporting to the Lead Engineering Governance & Technical Stewardship (G&TS), the Principal Engineering G&TS will play a pivotal role in defining and governing global engineering standards and requirements, staying abreast of industry-leading practices and technological advancements, and fostering collaborative partnerships to drive strategic outcomes.


In this influential and high-impact role, you will:

  • Develop, govern, assure, and provide expert guidance on global engineering standards, processes, and systems—particularly in Asset Integrity risk management
  • Provide engineering governance and assurance for capital investments affecting business critical fixed plant and infrastructure assets.
  • Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with functional, asset, and operational stakeholders.
  • Provide technical expertise and support to BHP assets and operations globally in implementing and managing engineering requirements.
  • Champion continuous improvement across processes, systems, and technologies.
  • Challenge conventional thinking and act as a catalyst for innovation and change in a complex business environment.
  • Ensure alignment with the BHP Charter, Global Standards, Code of Conduct, and relevant statutory obligations.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (or equivalent) preferably Mechanical.
  • Demonstrated experience in engineering, ideally within Oil & Gas, mining or heavy industry, preferably on the Operations.
  • Deep knowledge of BHP’s global engineering requirements, especially in Asset Integrity risk management.
  • Strong knowledge of risk management, governance, and assurance practices.
  • Understanding of ISO 55000 principles to align asset strategy and lifecycle plans with business objectives (value, risk, cost, performance).
  • Basic understanding of strategy development, maintenance execution, planning, reliability, or production processes would be beneficial.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence across a matrixed organisation.
  • High technical aptitude, strategic thinking, and critical analysis capabilities.
  • A passion for continuous improvement and excellence, with an outward mindset.
  • Proven success in leading strategic change initiatives and delivering results in complex environments.
  • A collaborative leadership style, with the ability to build transparent and trusting relationships across all levels of the organisation.


Location

This role can be based at our Australian corporate offices in Adelaide, Brisbane, or Perth
You will work Monday to Friday, with site travel required from time to time. We encourage team collaboration, and our corporate office teams are expected to work from the office at least three days per week.
