Role Accountabilities

  • Preparing and reviewing engineering deliverables including complex reports, proposals, presentations, and drawing packages with Arcadis Australia Renewables & Substations Team.
  • Prepare documented design package for the appropriate submission stage of the project, applying engineering knowledge, techniques, tools, and complying with codes and standards.
  • Taking responsibility for the preparation of detailed engineering documentation and leading the engineering effort for project including providing technical and performance oversight for members of the team.
  • To manage selected projects, project task/responsibilities as assigned, and/or design processes (or parts of projects) to meet agreed budget, quality and timeframe targets.
  • Conduct internal review and quality checks of engineering drawings, calculations, reports, and other deliverables to ensure compliance with the project's requirements and delivering the fully documented package to meet Client objectives and Arcadis quality system requirements.
  • HV transmission and distribution substations secondary systems electrical design: protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedule, protection and control room layout, IED selection.
  • Conducting protection coordination study and developing tripping schemes.
  • Leading interdisciplinary coordination as required for the project.
  • Leading technical issue resolution processes.
  • Liaise with other disciplines and ensure all requirements are understood.
  • Understanding scope and change in scope when it arises.
  • Use software packages as required for the design and delivery.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in substation secondary design, preferably in a consulting environment.
  • Experienced in preparing engineering design packages including design drawings, engineering reports, datasheets, MTO, BOM, Layouts, Schematics and other documents.
  • Experience in leading the production of secondary CAD documentation to Australian Utility Standards or other international design standards.
  • Experience with the codes and standards relevant to power sector and electricity market.
  • Graduate of Bachelor of Technology/ Science in Electrical Engineering from recognized University.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Excellent mathematical skills applied in engineering calculations.
  • Organizational skills and proactive approach in project management.
  • Ability to provide solutions to technical problems.
  • Ability to lead, with good influencing, motivating and delegating skills.
  • Actively continue to develop technical knowledge and new emerging technology through regular CPD (Continuing Professional Development) training.

Highly Regarded Skills

  • Familiarity with the Australian electricity market, electricity generation, transmission and distribution practices and related topics.
  • Experience in power utility processes from concept stage to construction and as-built drawings will also be beneficial.
  • Drafting standards experience and knowledge and application of functions within CAD.
  • Computational design, design algorithms and automation of data manipulation.
  • Consulting experience for Australian power projects.
  • Professional registration with any leading engineering body such as Engineers Australia.
  • Experience in renewables such as solar and wind power generation plants.
  • The ability to develop complex models in ETAP, SKM PTW and conduct protection coordination study.
