About the Role

Microchip's Wireless Solutions Group is defining the next generation of wireless system-on-chip (SoC) products for the automotive market among other durable segments. We are seeking an experienced Principal Engineer - Product Marketing to own the product strategy, requirements, and business planning for our automotive wireless SoC portfolio — spanning Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), Ultra-Wideband (UWB), and emerging connectivity standards.

This is a high-impact, high-visibility role. You will drive multiple concurrent product lines from concept through definition and launch, working at the intersection of marketing, engineering, and the broader automotive ecosystem. You'll represent Microchip in key industry consortia and shape the wireless roadmap for durable, long-lifecycle markets.

What You'll Do

Product Strategy & Definition

  • Own product business plans, product requirements documents, and competitive positioning for automotive wireless SoCs targeting digital key, vehicle access, and adjacent applications.
  • Define feature-sets and drive trade-off decisions across BLE, UWB, and next-generation connectivity standards in close collaboration with Systems, RF IP, digital & analog IP engineering teams.
  • Build and maintain a data-driven product roadmap informed by customer needs, competitive dynamics, and technology evolution.

Market & Competitive Intelligence

  • Conduct ongoing competitive analysis of automotive wireless solutions from key competitors and translate insights into product differentiation strategy.
  • Track and anticipate Bluetooth, UWB, and automotive connectivity standard evolution to inform forward-looking product definition

Industry Consortium & Ecosystem Engagement

  • Actively participate in industry standards bodies and consortia (e.g., Car Connectivity Consortium, Bluetooth SIG, FiRa), contributing to working groups and monitoring emerging use-cases and specification changes
  • Translate consortium direction into actionable product requirements and customer-facing positioning.

Customer & Sales Enablement

  • Partner with worldwide automotive sales, field application engineers, and regional business development teams to support customer engagements, design-ins, and technical evaluations
  • Develop training materials, competitive collateral, and demonstration strategies that equip the field organization to win.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Coordinate across hardware, software/applications, IP acquisition, and validation teams to ensure product definition milestones stay on track.

Drive buy-vs-build and architectural decisions for key wireless IP blocks in collaboration with engineering leadership.

Requirements/Qualifications:

Required:

  • 8+ years in semiconductor product marketing or product management, with hands-on experience defining wireless SoC or RF IC products (BLE, UWB, Wi-Fi, SubGHz, or similar).
  • Proven track record of driving business, generating new revenue and releasing new products to market
  • Experience driving new product definition and product business plans
  • Demonstrated ability to engage at a technical level with architecture, design and applications
  • Familiarity with the competitive landscape in automotive connectivity semiconductors
  • Strong financial acumen, comfortable with revenue modeling, forecasting, margin analysis for semiconductor product lines.
  • Excellent communication skills; able to influence cross-functional teams and leadership
  • Willingness to travel (20%) for customer visits and consortium meetings

Preferred:

  • Direct experience in vehicle access, digital key, PEPS, or automotive body electronics product ecosystems.
  • Experience managing product portfolios that span multiple technologies
  • Familiar with industry standards bodies and alliances
  • MSEE, MSCS, or equivalent technical degree; MBA is a plus.
