About this role

Wells Fargo is seeking a Principal Engineer within its Infrastructure Engineering & Architecture organization. This role will provide deep, hands-on technical leadership to drive automation across OpenShift, Kubernetes, and foundational platform ecosystems.

Responsibilities span platform engineering across on-prem and cloud compute, storage, virtualization, and containerization platforms.

This role will also drive platform modernization (including self-service capabilities for end-users and support partners), observability, reliability, and regulatory compliance.

In this role, you will:

  • Act as the senior technical authority for platform automation across on-prem and cloud compute, storage, virtualization, and containerization platforms.

  • Define engineering standards and automation patterns for multi-cluster, multi-cloud environments.

  • Lead code reviews, enforce engineering best practices, and guide teams toward resilient automation-focused designs.

  • Develop reusable automation modules, operators, GitOps templates, and API-based workflows.
  • Lead OpenShift Virtualization, OpenShift on Azure/GKE validation, and certification of integrations.
  • Modernize end-to-end provisioning using API-driven microservices and fully automated workflows.
  • Automate certificate lifecycle management, service mesh provisioning, and cluster maintenance workflows.
  • Improve drift, vulnerability, and compliance automation in partnership with governance teams.
  • Enhance observability with unified dashboards, SLO enforcement, resiliency automation, and MTTR reduction.
  • Mentor engineers, lead technical councils, and support major cross-team engineering decisions.

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

Desired Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of compute, storage, virtualization, and containerization platform engineering experience.
  • 5+ years of hands-on Kubernetes/OpenShift experience in large environments.
  • Automation of complex infrastructure workflows using Terraform/Ansible.
  • Hands-on scripting using Python, Go, or Bash.
  • Experience with GitOps (Argo CD, Flux) and CI/CD automation.
  • Hybrid cloud engineering (on-prem, Azure, GCP) including multi-cloud connectivity and security.
  • Strong background in platform reliability, SLOs, observability, and automation-first operating models.
  • Experience delivering OpenShift Virtualization and modernization programs.
  • Experience with Prisma integrations for vulnerability and drift automation.
  • Experience designing platform-wide observability dashboards and analytics pipelines.
  • Financial services or regulatory industry experience.
  • Certifications: CKA/CKAD, RHCSA/RHCE, Terraform Associate, Azure/GCP Professional.

  • Increased automation coverage and reduction of manual operational workflows.
  • Accelerated onboarding to platform via self-service and GitOps workflows.
  • Improved reliability, lower MTTR, and operational consistency across platform teams.
  • Stronger compliance and audit posture enabled through automated controls and drift management.
  • Greater efficiency and reduced friction across on-prem and cloud compute, storage, virtualization and containerization platforms and products.
