Job Description

At Bulk, our mission is to build sustainable infrastructure that supports the digital society of tomorrow. As one of the leading providers of sustainable, high-performance data center solutions in the Nordics, we design and operate infrastructure that powers artificial intelligence and the digital society – efficiently, securely, and with 100% renewable energy. We are now looking to hire a Principal Engineer Mechanical to play a central role in shaping the mechanical engineering standards that set the foundation for our growing data center portfolio.

The Principal Engineer Mechanical is a high-impact role with responsibility for mechanical engineering processes across multiple large-scale data center sites. You will define standards, guide site operations, and act as a key technical authority as Bulk grows. The role offers significant influence, close collaboration with senior stakeholders, and the opportunity to build a new central engineering capability from the ground up.

What you’ll do:

As our Principal Engineer Mechanical, your key responsibilities will be:

  • Lead mechanical engineering processes across Bulk’s data center portfolio (air and liquid cooling, HVAC, heat rejection, water systems, and fire systems).

  • Define and own mechanical engineering standards, policies, and procedures aligned with high-density and hyperscale requirements.

  • Perform site deep dives, audits, and health checks against design intent and target risk levels.

  • Provide capacity reviews and technical sign-off for customer deployments, including high-density and liquid-cooled workloads.

  • Lead engineering reviews and provide input to new builds.

  • Develop asset strategies aligned with ISO 55000, including criticality, maintenance plans, sparing, and lifecycle planning.

  • Act as senior escalation point during mechanical incidents, leading investigations and root cause analysis.

  • Run fleet-wide reliability and health programs using telemetry (BMS/EMS/CMMS).

  • Mentor site engineers and support capability building across the organization, including liquid cooling operations and safety.

  • Qualify vendors, approve mechanical equipment specifications, and govern deviations.

  • Support energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives, including PUE, WUE, and heat reuse strategies.

Who are you?

You are an experienced mechanical engineer with a strong understanding of mission-critical cooling systems and the credibility to act as an authority across a growing data center organization. You thrive in complex environments, enjoy setting standards from the ground up, and are comfortable balancing operational realities with long-term scalability.

What you bring:
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.

  • At least 10 years of experience in mission-critical facilities or data center environments.

  • Strong knowledge of cooling architectures, including CRAH/CRAC, AHUs, economization, adiabatic systems, and high-density deployments.

  • Experience with liquid cooling solutions such as direct-to-chip and rear-door heat exchangers.

  • Familiarity with ASHRAE TC 9.9 guidance and thermal management principles.

  • Experience with commissioning, performance testing, and reliability engineering (FMEA/RCFA).

  • Experience with standards such as BICSI 002, EN 50600-2-3/-4, and ISO 55000.

  • Proven experience supporting or leading incident response and root cause analysis.

  • Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to lead through influence.

Why join us?
  • A unique opportunity to shape a newly established central engineering function.

  • Influence the mechanical standards of next-generation, sustainable data centers.

  • Work at the intersection of operations, design, and future-focused infrastructure.

What we offer our Bulkies:
  • A dynamic, growth-oriented workplace with a strong sustainability focus.

  • Comprehensive insurance and annual health check.

  • Additional time off during Easter and Christmas.

  • Monthly contribution to home internet costs and sustainable commuting.

  • Annual wellness allowance to support an active lifestyle.

  • Fully paid parental leave.

Take the next step in your career and join us as we build the future of digital infrastructure in Norway and beyond!
