Job Description

The Principal Engineer – Electrical Wind Systems is a key Controlled Title Holder role in the Electrical Subsystem organization in GE Vernova's Onshore Wind business. This role will have functional responsibility for Electrical Systems for new turbine design and fleet support.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Initiates, owns or reviews development/test plans – at the supplier, lab, prototype, and customer sites. Drives the incorporation of insights gained in each validation step in products, design practices, tools and methods.
  • Maintains a key role in developing and defining the state of the art in own technical specialty in order to anticipate, apply, adapt or develop technologies for product introduction, safety, quality, performance, cost improvements and problem resolution in meeting current and future business needs including adherence to quality standards, schedules and estimated costs
  • Provides technical consultation to cross-functional teams to do risk assessments, investigations, determine root causes, resolve issues or improve safety in manufacturing, product centers, at supplier, or in the field
  • Provide guidance, recommendation, and requirements to the electrical subsystem engineering team to ensure high quality design changes to the existing and new Electrical System and its integration.
  • Own the development of a Wind Turbine Electrical System Design Practice (DP).
  • Support Engineering-or-better Hierarchy of Controls for Electrical System by engaging early in the design process.
  • Review Electrical System requirements inputs as part of electrical system design process.
  • Function as a primary reviewer for electrical system architecture as part of the Engineering design process
  • Support in determining root cause and corrective actions for electrical system level incidents.
  • Serve as the Renewable Energy lead to drive connection between Onshore Wind and industry best practices.
  • Drive Engineering excellence in the subsystem team, ensuring compliance and adherence to Renewable Energy Engineering processes, component design standards and regulations.
  • Provide input to define and ensure business metrics are met, drive simplification and standardization of design/operation processes, productivity and overall subsystem team performance
  • Provide leadership with high integrity and oversight of processes protecting intellectual property, export controlled information and strategic technology

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Proven experience with wind turbine electrical and regulation system knowledge
  • Strategic thinker, with demonstrated ability to set vision and lead teams to successful outcomes
  • Ability to lead in a cross-functional and global environment
  • Proven track record of advocacy and adherence to safety and safe working practices.
  • Considered an expert in electrical system design and turbine level integration demonstrated through multiple NPI and Services programs, RCA support, and design practice contributions.
  • Significant experience in related analysis and simulation platforms (capability analysis tool, Easypower)
  • Demonstrated system thinking: ability to assess tradeoffs, effectively assess risk, and optimize results.
  • Extensive and proven experience in Electrical systems and subsystems and/or multiple electrical components design.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to simplify complex issues for broader internal and external stakeholders.
  • Self-starter with ability to motivate and provide positive and candid reinforcement to team.
  • Experience leading RCAs (i.e. 8D process).
  • Experience applying Lean principles to solving technical challenges.
  • Knowledge of wind turbines, systems and/or components.
  • Ability to develop strategic vision and follow through.
  • Demonstrated clear thinker with ability to navigate complex and high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time
