Job Description
LAB3 is one of the largest Azure engineering practices in the Australasia region with a focus on Cloud & DevOps, Data, IoT & AI, Modern Workplace, Modern Apps & Integration, Security, and Network services.
We are looking for a Principal Engineer- Cloud & DevOps with NV1 clearance, based anywhere in Australia (ideally in Canberra but open to other locations). We are open to permanent (preferred) and contractors (daily rate).
You will lead & deliver high-end technical solutions on a Microsoft Azure platform that meet and exceed client requirements.
The role
- Lead the end-to-end delivery of Azure platform and automation initiatives.
- Design, document and implement secure, scalable and reliable Azure solutions.
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, supported by robust CI/CD pipelines.
- Provision and manage AKS environments, including application deployment, microservices configuration and Helm chart management.
- Act as a trusted technical advisor, providing architecture and design guidance across multiple engagements.
- Translate complex technical concepts into clear recommendations for senior stakeholders and executives.
- Produce high-quality engineering artefacts including solution designs, runbooks, governance documentation and change records.
- Partner with delivery leaders on estimation, planning and risk management.
- Mentor engineers, support onboarding, contribute to hiring activities and help uplift engineering capability across the team.
The ideal candidate
We are looking for a motivated, proactive, detail-oriented individual who takes pride in their work, takes ownership and communicates well. You will be based anywhere in Australia (with Canberra as a preference) with an NV1 AGSVA security clearance.
Technical skills:
- Azure IaaS and PaaS: Deep hands-on capability across the full Azure estate with a DevOps mindset
- Infrastructure as Code: Terraform, ARM Templates and Bicep
- Kubernetes (AKS)
- Pipelines and source control: Azure DevOps, GitHub, GitHub Actions, Bitbucket, Bamboo & Jenkins
- HashiCorp tooling: Terraform and Vault for secrets and credential management
- Azure Networking, Security and Identity: cloud networking, security controls, Entra ID, RBAC and access design
- Cloud Automation: Python, Bash and PowerShell
- Azure Functions, Key Vault, Backups and Cloud Storage
- Azure Integration: Logic Apps, API Management and Microservices
- Cloud Identity, Governance, Licensing and Azure AD
- Azure Databases including PostgreSQL
