Principal Engineer / Architect

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and hands-on Principal Engineer / Architect to lead the architecture, design, and delivery of next-generation cloud-native data and application platforms. This role is ideal for a senior technology leader who combines deep engineering expertise with strategic architectural vision and thrives in complex, distributed environments.

The successful candidate will be responsible for defining technical direction, designing scalable and resilient solutions, and partnering with engineering, product, and platform teams to deliver high-performance systems. This individual will serve as a technical authority across the organization while remaining actively involved in solution design, development, architecture reviews, and engineering best practices.

Key Responsibilities

Architecture & Technical Leadership

• Define and drive the architecture for enterprise-scale applications, data platforms, and distributed systems.
• Design scalable, secure, resilient, and high-performance solutions aligned with business and technology objectives.
• Establish architectural standards, engineering best practices, and technology roadmaps.
• Lead technical decision-making and provide architectural guidance across multiple engineering teams.
• Conduct architecture reviews and ensure adherence to security, scalability, and operational excellence standards.

Software Engineering & Platform Development

• Design and develop enterprise applications and microservices using Java and Scala.
• Architect and implement scalable RESTful APIs and service-oriented solutions.
• Drive the development of cloud-native solutions leveraging Azure services and modern engineering frameworks.
• Participate in hands-on development of critical components and complex technical initiatives.

Data & Event-Driven Architecture

• Design and implement large-scale data solutions utilizing Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS) and Databricks.
• Architect event-driven systems and real-time data processing solutions using Apache Kafka and MQ technologies.
• Ensure data platforms are optimized for scalability, performance, reliability, and maintainability.
• Support integration of applications, data pipelines, and distributed services across the enterprise.

Engineering Excellence

• Provide technical mentorship and guidance to engineers and development teams.
• Drive adoption of modern software development practices, design patterns, CI/CD, and DevOps principles.
• Identify and resolve complex technical challenges across application, data, integration, and infrastructure layers.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend innovative solutions that enhance platform capabilities and engineering productivity.
• Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, Data, Infrastructure, and DevOps teams to deliver business-critical solutions.

Required Qualifications

Architecture & Technical Leadership

• Proven experience serving as a Principal Engineer, Lead Architect, Solution Architect, or similar senior technical leadership role.
• Demonstrated ability to design and deliver enterprise-scale distributed systems and cloud-native architectures.
• Strong understanding of software architecture patterns, microservices, event-driven architectures, and integration frameworks.

Java & Scala Development

• Extensive hands-on experience developing enterprise-grade applications using Java and/or Scala.
• Strong knowledge of object-oriented design principles, design patterns, and modern application development frameworks.
• Proven experience designing and developing RESTful APIs and distributed services.

Cloud Data Platforms

• Deep experience designing and implementing data solutions leveraging Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS).
• Strong hands-on experience with Databricks for large-scale data engineering, analytics, and processing workloads.
• Experience working with cloud-native architectures and Azure-based platforms.

Messaging & Distributed Systems

• Extensive experience with Apache Kafka, MQ, or similar messaging and streaming technologies.
• Strong understanding of event-driven architectures, messaging patterns, and distributed system design.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience developing APIs, services, or automation solutions using Python.
• Strong Python scripting expertise for data processing, automation, and operational workflows.
• Experience leading and mentoring engineering teams in enterprise environments.
• Knowledge of Azure cloud services and modern DevOps practices.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerization, Kubernetes, and infrastructure automation.
• Experience working within Agile development methodologies.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and collaboration abilities.
