Principal technical leader for the system architecture and routing-protocol design of Ericsson's IPOS network operating system on the Router 6000 platform.
Own the design of the control-plane and routing subsystems end to end, and shape the platform infrastructure and security foundations that IPOS is built on turning architectural intent into robust, scalable, competitive implementation.
This is a senior individual-contributor role: you set technical direction for a major subsystem, guide developers, and are accountable for the architectural quality of what ships.
Key Responsibilities:
System Architecture & Routing Protocols:
Required Competencies
• Deep, hands-on expertise in IP routing protocols IS-IS, BGP, MPLS, Segment Routing (SR-MPLS/SRv6), EVPN; multicast a strong plus
• Proven track record designing subsystems within a large-scale embedded network OS (IPOS, IOS-XR, SROS, JUNOS, or a disaggregated NOS such as SONiC)
• Strong system-design fundamentals: distributed state, scalability, high availability, convergence, ISSU
• Working knowledge of platform infrastructure forwarding/data-plane abstraction, silicon abstraction, telemetry, control-plane infrastructure
• Solid grounding in network security: control-plane protection, IPsec/MACsec, secure boot, protocol hardening
• Ability to translate product/segment requirements into architecture and lead it through to delivery
• 10+ years in networking software development, with 3+ years in system design / architecture of routing or platform subsystems
• Excellent technical communication and cross-geography collaboration
Nice to Have
• Experience with cloud-native / containerized NOS and disaggregated architectures
• Exposure to AI-native / on-node telemetry-driven operations
• Contributions to relevant standards bodies (IETF) or open-source networking projects
• Familiarity with the mobile transport domain (packet fronthaul, timing/sync, cell-site routing)
Why This Role Is Critical
Routing and control-plane design is the technical core of the IPOS value proposition and the foundation for the extended multi-segment strategy.
This Principal role anchors that expertise in the Bangalore Router 6000 team, ensuring the routing, infrastructure, and security architecture scales to new segments while remaining robust, secure, and competitive.
It works directly alongside the Transport SW Architecture Expert (JS8) and provides the deep subsystem leadership that turns architectural direction into shipped capability.
