EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

We have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Engineer based in Raynesway (Derby). The role is a Principal Engineer (Design Services) for Severn Trent Capital Design function, you will lead on all technical aspects for a variety of waste infrastructure schemes working with our framework design consultants to meet Severns Trent’s programme and standards, managing and supporting other team members in management of contracts.

Your role is to drive innovation and effective design solutions, leading on quality assurance process supporting other team members, managing project deliverables and facilitating collaboration between hydraulic modellers, designers, internal stakeholders and our wider supply chain to achieve optimal outcomes and uphold safety and sustainability. This role requires close liaison with the Project Management and Commercial Teams as well as ability to offer guidance and expert technical advice to consultants and internal team members

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Management: Coordinate, write and manage multiple Service Orders for professional design services so the project deliverables meet the design and project requirements.
  • Coordination and Collaboration: Facilitate effective communication and collaboration between sponsors, hydraulic modellers, designers, planners and other stakeholders.
  • Design Oversight: Guide the design process, understanding inputs required to support the design development, understanding the difference between change and design development and be compliant with Severn Trent’s programme requirements and safety standards.
  • Risk Management: Identify, assess, and manage risks throughout the design, construct and operational phases.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with internal stakeholders and the wider supply chain to ensure project alignment and optimal outcomes. Seek innovations from suppliers to achieve 50% faster, 30% cheaper and support internal learning labs.
  • Governance: Support the progressions of projects through Severn Trent’s gated process in a timely and efficient manner. Provide necessary information and recommendations to decision-makers at each gate review.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

You’ll be degree qualified and showing your professional commitment as a member of one of the engineering Institutions or actively working towards incorporated or chartered status, a journey which we are keen to support you on. We are seeking an experienced Civil/Structural/Mechanical/Geotechnical (Civil + geotechnical) Engineer with experience ideally in the Water/Utility sector.

You will have excellent internal and external stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build relationships with a diverse range of people.

You will be forward-thinking, capable of anticipating challenges and responding to change in a rapidly evolving environment. A full UK driving licence will be required.
