Principal responsibilities
Impact on the Business
- Lead and collaborate with ~30 SMEs globally to maintain and enhance the DevOps platform and toolchain, enabling software development across Mobile and other Digital Platforms.
- Establish engineering practices and implement dashboards to monitor engineering quality and productivity, as well as system health and service quality indicators.
- Establish and nurture strong technical leadership and relationships with architecture teams, as well as Value Stream and CTO teams.
- Represent Digital Platforms for DevOps, especially for Mobile, within the broader IWPB and Technology community, focusing on engineering quality, automation, and operational stability.
- Leverage AI and emerging technologies to drive engineering innovation and efficiency.
Stakeholders
- Maintain a strong technical relationship with Architecture teams, as well as Value Stream and Platform leads in IWPB
- Maintain a good relationship with Digital Platforms tech leads and business leaders
- Foster strong partnerships and maintain effective relationships with third-party vendors to ensure optimal uptime and cost efficiency.
- Build and manage trusted working relationships both within and outside of IWPB by cultivating connections across the broader HSBC group.
Leadership & Teamwork
- Lead and collaborate with ~30 SMEs globally to maintain and enhance the DevOps platform, with a primary focus on Mobile engineering needs.
- Foster technology sharing and best-practice adoption across global engineering teams to strengthen DevOps capabilities across the organization.
- Provide senior management with clear insights into the company’s technological standing and readiness in alignment with its mission and industry landscape.
- Joint the global leadership team to build an effective global team through communication, performance management, development plans and reward/recognition practices.
- Cultivate an environment that supports diversity and reflects the HSBC brand.
- Able to manage engineering under the tight budget and time frames.
Operational Effectiveness & Control
- Ensure technology goals are identified, communicated, documented, agreed and delivered in the most cost-effective manner possible.
- Identifying key risks, issues and interdependencies and provide appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Supporting audit / independent programme assessments as required
- Ensure HSBC is not put at any operational or reputational risk.
Knowledge & Experience/Qualifications
- Strong hands-on experience with mobile build, signing and release pipelines (iOS/Android/Harmony), including compilation, packaging, versioning, and deployment to enterprise distribution/app stores.
- Hands-on engineering background with a solid grasp of DevSecOps principles, CI/CD pipeline design, and configuration management, using tools such as Git, Jenkins, Ansible(or equivalent).
- 10+ years’ technology leadership in software engineering, with deep experience in mobile engineering and delivery; working knowledge of languages such as Python, C++ and JavaScript (HTML as needed for tooling/UI).
- Proven track record in senior technology leadership roles within complex, regulated financial services environments, including delivery of large-scale technology transformations.
- Strong problem-solving capability with a pragmatic, innovative mindset; able to diagnose and resolve mobile pipeline and release issues quickly.
- Experience operating in Agile at scale environments (e.g., Scaled Agile) and implementing DevSecOps tools and processes across multiple teams.
- Ability to lead, influence and align stakeholders across a broad technology organization, driving adoption of standardized mobile engineering practices and shared tooling.
- Strong judgement in balancing risk, security and compliance with delivery speed; focused on cost-effective engineering outcomes and measurable business value.
- Comfortable leading global, cross-cultural teams, fostering inclusive collaboration across regions and time zones.
- Strong operational mindset with a focus on reliability, service health and metrics (e.g., build stability, lead time, deployment frequency, change failure rate).
- Demonstrated experience leading executive and non-executive working groups and delivering change through people, coaching and clear accountability.
