Hybrid WorkingLevel 6 will lead the technical development and delivery at Team, Lab and sometimes platform level. They can be a Line Manager who will act as co-lead with the Team PO for overall delivery. In these cases, they will be responsible for overall tech delivery, line management & app ownership alongside their own software engineering output. Others will operate as Individual Contributors, who are specialist experts in particular technology areas and will be narrower and deeper in focus, providing technology leadership, mentoring and guidance.

JOB TITLE: Lead Software Engineer – Digital Services Lab

LOCATION(S): Hyderabad

HOURS: Full time

Who are we?

We're the API & Digital Services Platform within Lloyds Banking Group and this role seats in one of the three labs that make up this platform i.e., the Digital Services lab.

The API & Digital Services Platform’s vision is to enable smarter API & SOE lead innovation whilst ensuring resilient digital services today.

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Lead Software Engineer to work within the Digital Services Lab to join product engineering cross functional teams. As a team manager your responsibilities will be leading teams delivering high quality engineering solutions, drawing upon your engineering expertise, whilst adopting cloud capabilities and modern engineering practices.

You can expect to be doing…

  • Lead the technical development and delivery at team and lab level.
  • Co-lead product teams with Product Owners to execute product strategy delivering on customer outcomes and internal needs of the group.
  • Lead and own applications developed by your teams in line with strategy, risk management, quality controls, cost and alignment with group technology strategy.
  • Mentor, manage and coach, the software engineering squad, developing their skills and career growth.
  • Collaborate with the head of engineering, product managers, architects, and other stakeholders to define and execute the software engineering squads’ roadmap, scope, and deliverables.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve technical issues and challenges that arise during the software development lifecycle.
  • Drive a modern engineering culture of delivering high quality, automated, secure & resilient software.
  • Help in adopting best engineering practices like Test Driven Development, code reviews, Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery.
  • Be a team player who can build relationships and collaborate productively with other teams across a variety of domains.
  • Champion culture of inclusivity and diversity

We would be looking for the following...

  • Experience: Minimum 14 years in software engineering, including 2+ years in a leadership or management role.
  • Technical Delivery: Proven track record in system design, software development, testing, and ensuring operational stability.
  • API & Microservices Design: Expertise in end-to-end API design (preferably REST), including security, enterprise patterns, and rate limiting using Java tech stack.
  • Cloud Expertise: Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services such as Compute Engine, Kubernetes/GKE, and IAM.
  • Automation & CI/CD: Strong knowledge and practical experience in building and managing automated pipelines.
  • Agile Practices: Advanced understanding and application of agile methodologies.
  • Core Engineering Skills: Solid grasp of computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, design patterns, and software architecture principles.
  • Technology Leadership: Ability to define engineering standards, align solutions with business objectives, and uphold architectural principles.
  • Cross-Platform Delivery: Proven capability to lead complex, multi-platform technology initiatives across business units.
  • Talent Development: Experience in hiring, mentoring, and developing engineering talent
