While ideally based in our North Kingstown, RI facility, this role is also open to remote candidates located in the Eastern or Central time zones. Reporting to the Manager of Software Engineering Embedded Systems, the Lead Software Engineer will define standards and best practices for the Software Engineering organization. This hands-on role involves architecting, managing, and executing product design and development from concept through volume production in a cross-functional team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship for Software Engineering staff at Hayward Rhode Island.
  • Direct activities, provide development judgment, and act as a "Lead" for assigned firmware/software sub-systems.
  • Lead platform development projects for new product development across all business units at Hayward.
  • Hands-on design and development of complex firmware/software sub-systems, coordinating engineering tasks, agency regulations, testing, and mitigations.
  • Summarize project progress with concise status reports, define and provide resolutions for encountered issues during development.
  • Collaborate with internal resources, outside vendors, and partners to support product development.
  • Work with Hayward Engineering Services for Reliability Engineering, Product Testing, and Compliance, and communicate design requirements to manufacturing and outside suppliers.

Qualifications

  • BSCE/CS or MS with 10+ years of embedded software engineering experience in a product development environment.
  • 3+ years of experience leading cross-functional development efforts (water product experience a plus).
  • Knowledge of safety standards, agency regulations, EMC, and environmental compliance.
  • Design and development of medium to high-volume consumer products is a plus.
  • Experience interfacing with manufacturing engineering and production personnel.
  • Knowledge of product development process tools and analysis methods.
  • Experience with configuration management and the engineering change control process.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to deliver technical subject matter presentations to non-technical staff and executives.
  • Team player with the ability to collaborate across multiple functional areas.
