About the Role

The purpose of this role is to create timely and accurate data models for reporting and analysis. This role will also be responsible for producing and maintaining analytical models, visualisations and dashboards in Power BI that support metric reporting. Additionally, you will leverage AI and machine learning techniques to enhance data analysis, automate routine tasks, and provide predictive insights that drive business decisions.

Reporting to the Superintendent Maintenance Enablement, your core accountabilities will include:

  • Implementing AI-driven data management practices to maintain data quality and compliance
  • Designing, training, and deploying machine learning models to enhance data analysis and reporting capabilities
  • Sourcing and validating data via Snowflake and SQL Server to allow delivery of routine and on-demand business reporting and remediation
  • Building, updating, enhancing and maintaining visualisations in Power BI
  • Preparing and executing algorithms for data mining and statistical analysis and machine learning
  • Identify inconsistencies and finding improvement opportunities. Cleanses and manages data/metadata to maintain the quality and integrity of BHP data and ensure compliance with data security, privacy and legal requirements
  • Determines the underlying cause of problems and evaluates multiple solutions to ensure a planned and structured approach to solving complex problems
  • Identifies and engages with a range of diverse stakeholders.

About You


The successful candidate will have experience in sourcing, validating, and managing data to support business reporting. You should have a strong background in building and maintaining data visualisations, as well as developing and deploying algorithms for data mining, statistical analysis, and machine learning. A keen eye for identifying inconsistencies and improvement opportunities, along with a structured approach to solving complex problems, is essential.

As a successful candidate you will possess the following:

  • Expertise in Snowflake, DBT and Gitlab
  • Knowledge of AI and machine learning techniques, including model development and deployment.
  • Power BI experience in M and DAX language, skilled operating Power BI desktop and PBI service.
  • Proficiency in manipulating data from large datasets
  • Using various data analytics or programming languages such as SQL or other
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving skills
  • Experience in planning and executing work using a disciplined approach in an agile environment, including task management to achieve project goals
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively communicate analytical results to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Degree in engineering, computer science, statistics, mathematics or related field.
