Principal Architect – Print Solutions & AI Platforms

We are seeking an experienced Principal Architect to lead the architecture and technical direction of next-generation Print Solutions, combining scalable cloud platforms with emerging Agentic AI capabilities.

This role is a senior technical leadership position responsible for defining and evolving our software architecture across cloud, data, and edge environments. You will work closely with Product, Data, and AI teams to design secure, scalable, and intelligent systems that power HP’s future print ecosystem.

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in Java/Spring-based cloud systems, hands-on experience with AWS services, and a strong understanding of modern AI-driven architectures, including agent-based systems, workflow orchestration, and durable execution frameworks.

This role operates within HP’s evolving platform‑ and service‑oriented operating model, ensuring that architectural direction, AI platforms, and cloud solutions align with shared platforms, service ownership models, and cross‑organizational priorities

Key Responsibilities

Architecture & Technical Leadership

  • Define and drive the e2e architecture for cloud native and hybrid (cloud edge device) solutions
  • Lead design of scalable, resilient systems using modern architectural patterns (microservices, event-driven, serverless)
  • Own architectural governance, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards and long-term strategy

Agentic AI & Next-Gen Platforms

  • Lead adoption of Agentic AI architectures using frameworks such as OpenAI Agents SDK, A2A, and MCP
  • Design and implement AI-powered workflows, orchestration layers, and intelligent automation capabilities
  • Partner with Data and AI teams to integrate ML/AI services into production-grade systems

Cloud & Data Platform Expertise

  • Architect and optimize solutions on AWS
  • Ensure high availability, scalability, and cost-efficiency of distributed systems
  • Design data pipelines and enable data-driven applications and insights

Workflow & Execution Systems

  • Design and implement durable execution frameworks and workflow orchestration (e.g. Temporal, Step Functions, or equivalent).
  • Ensure reliability, observability, and fault tolerance in long-running processes

Engineering Excellence

  • Champion best practices in CI/CD, DevOps, test automation, and observability
  • Drive performance optimization, system reliability, and operational excellence

Security & Compliance

  • Ensure all solutions comply with HP Cyber Security policies and enterprise governance standards.
  • Embed security-by-design principles across architecture and development.

Influence & Collaboration

  • Act as a technical authority across teams, influencing without direct authority
  • Collaborate with Product, UX, Data CoE, and AI CoE to align on strategy and execution
  • Mentor senior engineers and architects, elevating overall technical capability

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with significant time in architecture roles.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot
  • Deep expertise in cloud-native architectures on AWS
  • Proven experience designing distributed, scalable, and resilient systems
  • Experience with workflow orchestration / durable execution frameworks
  • Strong understanding of observability, monitoring, and production operations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Agentic AI systems, LLM integrations, or AI orchestration frameworks (OpenAI, Langfuse, etc.).
  • Familiarity with A2A, MCP, or similar emerging agent communication patterns.
  • Experience in edge-device-cloud architectures
  • Background in data platforms, streaming, or analytics systems

Experience working in regulated environments with strong security and compliance requirements
