Drive cloud-native architecture for Business Digital Channels, partnering across product and engineering to deliver secure, scalable digital experiences.

As a Principal Architect at JPMorganChase within Consumer & Community Banking on Business Digital Channel Capabilities (Business Access and Tools), you define and drive the target architecture for cloud-based digital products that help customers run and grow their businesses. You will translate complex business needs into secure, resilient, and scalable technology solutions while influencing engineering standards and architectural direction across teams. You will partner closely with product, engineering, design, and leadership to accelerate delivery, strengthen stability, and raise the quality bar across the digital channel ecosystem.

Job responsibilities

  • Architect cloud-native, scalable application platforms and reference architectures that improve time-to-market, reliability, and customer experience.
  • Translate business and product strategy into end-to-end technical designs, including integration patterns, data flows, and non-functional requirements.
  • Establish and enforce architectural guardrails for security, resiliency, performance, and maintainability across the product landscape.
  • Lead technical decision-making across teams by facilitating design reviews, trade-off discussions, and architecture governance participation.
  • Guide engineering teams through complex delivery milestones, helping unblock technical challenges and improving engineering practices.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies (including agent-based and autonomous workflow technologies) and recommend adoption paths aligned to product goals.
  • Drive the technical target state and roadmap, aligning stakeholders on incremental delivery plans and measurable outcomes.
  • Build strong partnerships with product management and design to ensure solutions are responsive, accessible, and aligned to customer needs.
  • Review production code and technical implementations to ensure quality, security, and operational readiness.
  • Communicate architecture strategy and risks clearly to senior leaders, enabling timely decisions and sustained investment.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Formal training or certification on architecture concepts and 10+ years of applied experience, including hands-on experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability for large-scale platforms.
  • Required experience supporting digital channels, including designing architectures for high-availability, customer-facing applications.
  • Advanced knowledge of software architecture and modern engineering practices, with deep expertise in at least one technical domain (for example, cloud, artificial intelligence, machine learning, or mobile).
  • Strong proficiency in one or more programming languages with the ability to guide implementation decisions and code quality standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex architecture problems through structured analysis, pragmatic trade-offs, and clear technical direction.
  • Practical experience designing and operating cloud-native solutions (including containerization, service-based architectures, and automated delivery practices).
  • Experience driving outcomes as a product leader (for example, Product Owner or Product Manager) or partnering deeply with product management to define and deliver roadmaps.
  • Proven ability to present technical strategy and influence decisions with senior leaders and executives.
  • Demonstrable experience applying agent-based and autonomous workflow technologies to improve engineering productivity, reliability, or customer outcomes.

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Experience in business banking products, workflows, or customer journeys.
  • Familiarity with large-scale digital ecosystems and multi-product integration patterns across customer-facing platforms.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
