
Step into the role of a Principal Architect at JPMorgan Chase and become a driving force behind the development and adoption of cloud-based technologies.
Principal Architect to define the architectural direction for major cross-firm programs at JPMorgan Chase. You will own two or three multi-year architecture programs and set the target state architecture, standards, and paved paths that our organizations rely on and that make adoption the easiest choice. You will remain hands-on, focus on our hardest technology problems between line of businesses that need guidance on how to deliver solutions.
Job responsibilities
Define and own architectural direction for major cross-firm programs spanning multiple organizations.
Drive firm level architectural initiatives such as resilience, simplification, inventory, entitlements, or agentic development.
Author reference patterns and influential narratives focused on emerging and existing technology challenges that enjoy broad adoption across the firm.
Chair or sponsor major Architecture Working Groups and standards forums and set the bar for effective governance that helps drive firmwide change.
Mediate between organizations to converge on shared architectural target states and paved paths when localized approaches diverge.
Stay hands-on and focus on our hardest technology problems including reviewing design and code in detail as needed.
Influence the decisions of Executive Directors and Market Directors level leaders across functions and activate their organizations to adopt and champion our architectural direction.
Align architectural target states, standards, and paved paths with multi-year business strategies, operational constraints, and ongoing technology initiatives.
Make the case for major technological investments based on our architectural recommendations and clearly articulate tradeoffs (e.g., costs, risks, timelines).
Mentor Principal track architects. Establish team and organization level learning mechanisms such as postmortems, playbooks, or reviews.
Leverages enterprise-authorized AI capabilities within the work environment to accelerate architecture analysis and decisioning across the product family, with human-in-the-loop validation and appropriate handling of sensitive data.
Establishes reuse-first AI-enabled engineering patterns and governance across SDLC/toolchain practices, ensuring traceability/auditability, resiliency, and security controls.
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
Obtain 10 plus years in architecture or engineering, and experience delivering architecture outcomes for enterprise-scale problems.
Deep expertise across three or four technology domains with recognized mastery in in least one or two of these domains. Knowledge in one or more software, applications, and architecture
Experience leading or sponsoring large-scale architecture transformation programs that span multiple organizations.
Strong visual and written communication We expect you to write strategic narratives, investment cases, and reference patterns.
Demonstrable record leading cross-organizational initiatives without direct authority and of influencing senior leaders. Ability to work with minimal oversight, occasional checkpoints with leadership, and ownership of results across multi-year horizons.
Working knowledge of financial services, our regulatory expectations, how these shape architectural decisions.
Demonstrated record of delivering firm-wide architectural platforms or programs that other organizations actually use
Experience setting hiring, leveling, or development standards for senior technical talent.
Industry visibility: published patterns, internal white papers, conference talks, or contributions to standards bodies.
TOGAF, advanced architecture certifications in your technology domains (e.g., CISSP, AWS Certified SA - Pro, CDMP), or comparable credentials.
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
