As part of the US Lower 48 Upstream Research team, the Prinicpal Analyst will monitor and assess key events and commercial developments across the upstream industry. You will gather and analyse industry data, which you will use to produce high-quality research in the form of thought-provoking articles, presentations, economic models and written reports. The role will require a desire to connect large datasets, leverage our team's valuations expertise and form opinions on the impact of the corporate strategies, business environment, exploration, M&A deals, petroleum economics, government energy policy and regional geopolitics.
Our oil and gas sector teams are located around the world and deliver research and consulting projects based on our assessment and valuation of thousands of individual assets. Together, we work with a range of clients, including national and major oil companies, operators, investment banks, and institutional investors.
To contribute to the strategic priorities and objectives of your region/sector/specialist area
To establish and maintain close working relationships with a range of senior/executive level clients across the United States onshore region and to maintain currency on client priorities and enhance WoodMac's reputation for excellence
To support junior and middle managers in delivering excellence in overall team performance

Contributes to strategic planning and decision-making within business area, ensuring that programmes and objectives are aligned with strategic goals
Accountable for quality and effectiveness of content or work programmes in United States Lower 48
To play an integral role in expanding our commercial business in United States Lower 48, working very closely with commercial colleagues from the Sales and Consulting teams
To build and maintain a strong network within our United States Lower 48 clients and prospects
To contribute to our regional and global thought leadership research efforts
To communicate and share our industry leading research and opinions with executive clients and prospects.
A minimum of 8+ years of relevant, professional experience in the onshore upstream sector
A relevant educational background, ideally in either Engineering/Geosciences or Business/Economics
A network of industry contacts that can be called upon for primary research or Wood Mackenzie event participation
Experience in building upstream asset cashflows, discounted cashflow models and understanding the main elements of upstream valuations.
Deep experience in stakeholder engagement and management
Strong blend of technical skills and experience and demonstrable commercial acumen
A track record in demonstrating differentiated values and behaviours
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrable curiosity with a track record of impactful innovation
Excellent data reading, manipulation and analysis skills.
Expectations
We are a hybrid working company and the successful applicant will be required to be physically present in the office at least 2 days per week to foster and contribute to a collaborative environment. Full-time remote working is not an option for this role.
Due to the global nature of the team, a degree of flexible working will be required to accommodate different time zones.
