We are seeking an experienced Principal Analyst to join our Bulks Assets Research team, sitting within the broader Metals and Mining Research unit. This position is based in Brazil, with flexibility to be located in Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte or Sao Paulo, and forms part of a globally respected team of industry experts.

The Bulks Assets team delivers in-depth research across global steel and raw material assets, covering production analysis, cost benchmarking, mining parameters and operational risk. Our work helps clients navigate a rapidly evolving metals and mining landscape, equipping them with the insight needed to make sound commercial and strategic decisions. In this role, you will take primary responsibility for steel and iron ore asset coverage across the Americas region, including leading our cost benchmarking process for the area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to a team of analysts and subject matter experts delivering market-leading research on the steel and iron ore sector.
  • Build and maintain detailed asset models, drawing on a strong understanding of the underlying metrics that drive them. Develop informed perspectives on corporate strategy, project economics, business environment and government mining policy.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with clients and the broader natural resources community, using those connections to gather timely intelligence and enhance the quality of our research.
  • Act as a trusted expert for clients and media, working closely with sales and consulting colleagues to present data-driven views on steel and iron ore, and demonstrating the value our insights bring to client decision-making.
  • Leverage AI tools and emerging technologies to modernise workflows, strengthen decision-making processes and improve research capabilities at scale.
  • Prioritise effectively across competing demands, maintaining regular engagement with senior business stakeholders.
  • Champion an open, innovative and collaborative team culture, embracing new tools and methodologies to improve data processes, and identifying opportunities to generate new research, sales and consulting outcomes.

Knowledge, Experience and Skills

  • Significant experience in the steel, iron ore, mining, metals, commodities, natural resources, or related sectors, gained through industry, research, consulting, investment analysis, or commercial roles.
  • Strong understanding of steel and iron ore asset economics, production processes, cost drivers, operating performance metrics, and market dynamics.
  • Demonstrated experience developing, maintaining and interpreting quantitative models and large datasets, with the ability to translate complex analysis into clear, actionable insights.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail and a commitment to research quality.
  • Proven ability to gather, assess and synthesize information from multiple sources, forming independent views on companies, assets, projects and market developments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex topics to both technical and commercial audiences.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Geology, Economics, Finance, Business, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Fluency in English and Portuguese is required.
