Job Description

INNOVATION IS IMAGINING WHAT NO ONE ELSE CAN.

At the BMW Group, everything starts with passion. It turns a profession into a vocation. It drives us to keep reinventing mobility and bring innovative ideas onto the roads. Enthusiasm for joint projects turns a team into a strong unit where every opinion is valued. It is only when expertise, highly professional processes and enjoyment of work unite that we can shape the future together.

You will work hands-on with a team of AI engineers and architects to build the AI platform that powers our vehicles, from autonomous driving to in-car assistants.

What awaits you?

  • You design end-to-end AI and data architectures, from data ingestion to model serving that uses and extends platforms within our vehicles (with a strong focus on edge).
  • Furthermore, you leverage open-source AI frameworks and proprietary frameworks.
  • You drive the implementation of scalable AI software platforms, using the latest AI technologies and leveraging our in-house scalable software stacks.
  • You own the architecture for on-device models including SLMs, VLMs, and autonomous driving models: from training toolchain (pruning, fine-tuning, multimodal encoding) through to deployment on target HW.
  • Additionally, you set clear architectural interfaces between platform and application, shaping platform decisions before they get set in stone rather than inheriting them.
  • Furthermore, you guide business units and development teams with practical technical guardrails, in direct collaboration with hardware and system architects, not in isolation.

What should you bring along?

  • At least 5+ years in AI/ML engineering and architecture.
  • Deep experience with model execution on NPUs and low-level inference optimization.
  • Hands-on experience with on-device AI frameworks (LiteRT LM, ExecuTorch, ONNX GenAI).
  • Skilled in Rust, C++, Kotlin, and/or API technologies.
  • Experience with SLMs, VLMs, or autonomous driving models in production.
  • Knowledge of multi-agent orchestration and open standards (A2A, MCP).
  • Background in automotive or robotics, or strong willingness to develop it.
