TITLE: Principal

CLASSIFICATION: School Administrator � Site Administrator Level

REPORTS TO: Superintendent and Deputy Superintendent

The Elementary School Principal serves as the instructional and operational leader of the school, fostering a culture of excellence, continuous improvement, and student success. The principal is responsible for ensuring high student achievement by developing a strong educational foundation, increasing student enrollment and retention, maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment, and managing efficient school systems. Additionally, the principal is a supportive leader who prioritizes staff well-being, professional growth, community engagement, and collaboration.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develop and articulate a clear vision for the school that drives academic excellence and student achievement.
2. Align school initiatives with district academic goals and guardrails to ensure highquality instruction.
3. Lead data-driven instructional practices to improve student outcomes and close achievement gaps.
4. Foster a culture of high expectations for all students, ensuring a strong academic foundation in literacy and mathematics.
5. Promote innovative teaching strategies and the integration of technology to enhance learning.
6. Implement strategic initiatives to attract and retain students and families, emphasizing the school's unique programs and successes.
7. Build positive relationships with families and the community to increase engagement and trust in the school.
8. Actively collaborate with parents, local businesses, and community organizations to support school initiatives and student success.
9. Organize and participate in community events, partnerships, and outreach efforts to enhance the school's reputation and involvement.
10.Ensure the school is a welcoming and inclusive environment that encourages family and community participation in student learning.
11.Establish and enforce safe school policies and procedures, ensuring a secure learning environment for all students and staff.
12.Lead crisis management and emergency preparedness efforts.
13.Foster a school culture that promotes student responsibility, respect, and discipline.
14.Implement behavior management systems that support positive student engagement and success.
15.Oversee efficient school operations, including budget management, scheduling, and resource allocation.
16.Ensure compliance with district, state, and federal policies and regulations.
17.Streamline school systems to improve productivity and focus resources on student learning.
18.Utilize data and feedback to make informed decisions and drive continuous school improvement.
19.Support and mentor teachers, fostering a culture of collaboration, respect, and growth.
20.Provide effective feedback to staff that is timely, constructive, and actionable to enhance teaching and student learning.
21.Conduct regular classroom observations and coaching to support teacher development.
22.Provide professional development opportunities aligned with instructional priorities and school needs.
23.Promote teacher wellness and work-life balance, recognizing and valuing staff contributions.
24.Build strong leadership teams within the school to distribute responsibilities and empower staff.
25.Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION: A Master's degree from an accredited College of Education

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS:
A valid Arizona elementary teaching certificate.
A valid Arizona administrator's certificate for Principal.

EXPERIENCE: At least three (3) years teaching experience in a public school system as a full-time teacher.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:
Contemporary human resource management theory, principles and practices.
Working knowledge of State requirements, curriculum and personnel management.
Knowledge of Arizona school law and finance.
Ability to work with people to develop and implement a team approach to management.
History of good health and consistent work habits, with minimal number of absences.

WORKING CONDITIONS: The working environment is primarily an office setting with some travel between schools and district office.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve-month, Site Administrator Salary Schedule (Principal, Assistant Principal, Dean of Students), employee benefits in accordance with Board policies.

EVALUATION: Performance to be evaluated in accordance with Board policy on evaluation of administrative staff.

Roosevelt School District No. 66 was established in Phoenix, Arizona in 1912. The first RSD school was located south of the Phoenix City Center on the corner of what is now 7th Street and Southern Avenue.

What began as a 15-pupil district has grown into a school district serving more than 7,500 students and 1,200 employees in 20 schools, an early childhood education center and a Neighborhood Technology Resource Center. Roosevelt remains as the largest employer in South Phoenix.
