The South West Aboriginal Medical Service (SWAMS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service based in Bunbury which provides a variety of health services to Aboriginal people in the South West, Great South, Upper wheatbelt and Peel Regions of Western Australia. SWAMS delivers a wide range of Services including: GP Clinics, Primary Health Care, Counselling, NDIS and community host various programs. SWAMS has a strong growth strategy through partnership opportunities and future community development.

About the role

The Primary Health Manager is responsible for leading the Primary Health team in delivering the highest standards of care to clients across all SWAMS clinics. The role ensures the provision of quality clinical services, facilitates staff development and training, oversees effective client recall systems, and ensures all accreditation, quality, and legislative requirements are met.

The successful candidate will champion culturally appropriate and responsive healthcare, ensuring Aboriginal clients remain at the centre of service design and delivery.

The role oversees the day-to-day operations of Primary Health services at the Bunbury and South West clinics while supporting consistent and high-quality service delivery across the Katanning and Narrogin clinics.

Reporting to the Executive Manager of Aboriginal Health, the Primary Health Manager works collaboratively with the Clinical Operations Manager, Senior Medical Officer, Practice Manager, Outreach Coordinator, and other Managers and Coordinators to ensure integrated service delivery, continuous quality improvement, improved health outcomes for clients, and compliance with funding and contractual obligations.

This pivotal leadership role is responsible for:

• Supports Primary Health Coordinator, Senior Registered Nurse and Senior AHP to coordinate primary health activities across all South West clinics to ensure an effective service to clients.
• Supports Outreach Coordinator, Katanning and Narrogin Clinic Registered Nurses and AHPs to provide a consistent and effective primary health service as aligned to South West Clinic initiatives, continuous quality improvement, policies and procedures.
• Ensures team members actively contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives in service delivery, with the aim of enhancing clinical care, client outcomes, patient satisfaction, and staff wellbeing within their respective areas of work.
• Ensures continuity of effective service delivery across all clinics when affected by both planned and unplanned leave requests, arranging reassignment of duties where required.
• Conduct regular staff appraisals with direct reports within the primary health team.
• Supports Primary Health Coordinator, Senior Registered Nurse and Senior AHP in identifying staff that require support and assistance in fulfilling their responsibilities and arrange for the provision of support and assistance.
• Monitor and manage compliance with the policies of SWAMS.

About you

This role will suit a strategic, values-driven leader who is passionate about improving health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal communities. You will use your leadership skills combined with your clinic knowledge and experience to help develop and support this team to provide a high level of care.

• Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA
• Minimum of 3 years post graduation nursing experience
• Demonstrated leadership and management experience within primary healthcare, community health or clinical setting
• Strong understanding of clinical governance
• Highly desirable to have experience working within Aboriginal health.
