Job Description

As a Primary Design Engineer, your main responsibility is to design and layout high-voltage (HV) substations, ensuring their reliability, efficiency, and compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Collaboration with other engineers and support for project documentation and continuous improvement initiatives are also key aspects of this role.
He/she plans basic and detailed design activities, manages & oversees detailed execution progress, delivers required engineering documentation for procurement, manufacturing and site erection associated to concerned activity, based on Customer specifications and requirement, and internal standards.
He/she coordinates elaboration of documents done internally or through subcontracting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Designing and integrating essential components for a High Voltage substation or HVDC Substation in compliance with global and local standards.
  • Coordinating with multidisciplinary teams for efficient substation layout implementation, and design calculations
  • Developing comprehensive design specifications and supporting procurement activities.
  • Managing project strategies, risks, and customer relationships for successful project delivery.
  • Ensuring streamlined documentation management and facilitating effective design processes.
  • Collaborating with construction teams to incorporate valuable design insights for enhanced project outcomes.
  • Manage engineering subcontractors for specific work packages.
  • Support site teams to ensure smooth erection and capitalize lessons learnt.

What you bring:

  • To be successful in this role, you should possess the following qualifications:
  • Education: a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field. A master’s degree may be preferred.
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in the design of HV substations, HVDC Substation, including layout design and component selection. Experience with CAD software Autodesk CAD tools, Revit, BIM360, ACC and substation design tools is a plus.
  • Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of HV substation design principles, industry standards, and regulations. Familiarity with protection and control systems is advantageous.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in using design and simulation, calculation software. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and convey complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Certifications: Professional engineering certification or licensure is preferred.
  • Familiar with project technical management processes, preferably in a multi-disciplinary team’s context with multiple interfaces
  • First experience in managing subcontracted design work package (preferably externally)
  • English working knowledge
  • Experience in technical problem solving
  • Knowledge of Transmission or Distribution industry
  • Willingness to work in different locations for short or medium period and to travel worldwide
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail to ensure designs meet safety, performance, sustainability, and compliance requirements.
  • Project Management: Basic project management skills, including the ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing project requirements.
  • Fluent in English
