Description

Hiring multiple candidates for both full-time and part-time (seasonal) positions!

Do you have a desire to teach youth about health and wellness? Are you interested in teaching without being tied to the classroom all day? We have the perfect position as a Prevention Specialist for you!

  • Develop your own lessons as well as implement our set curriculum - Allowing for creativity and tying in your personal interests to lesson planning.

The Prevention Specialist works within the Prevention Services Department of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Tarrant County. The goal of the Prevention Services Department is to equip and empower youth and communities with the knowledge and skills to attain overall social, emotional, and mental well-being. The Prevention Specialist will help us work towards this goal by implementing evidence-based curriculum to youth between the ages of 5-18, as well as designing and facilitating community presentations on a variety of topics, including (but not limited to): drug education/prevention, bullying education/prevention, managing emotions, coping skills, mindfulness, social skills, etc.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Participation:

  • Accountable for recruiting and enrolling eligible youth into the program
  • Accountable for meeting participation goals and objectives

Prevention Curriculum:

  • Accountable for acting as liaison between target schools, organization staff, and program staff
  • Accountable for providing services and activities to meet the needs of enrolled members
  • Accountable for the fidelity of the curriculum

Prevention Activities:

  • Accountable for conducting prevention activities
  • Accountable for quality programming and activities

Administrative Duties:

  • Accountable for accurate and timely documentation and reporting

Facility and Child Safety:

  • Accountable for adherence to all organizational health and safety policies and implementation of all safety practices and procedures at assigned work location(s)
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect members, staff, equipment, materials, and facilities. Abide by facility maintenance protocols and procedures to ensure compliance
  • Accountable for reporting incidents and completing documentation within the required timeline
  • Maintain discipline, de-escalate conflict between members and/or others
  • Obtain and renew CPR and First Aid certification by deadline

Administrative Compliance:

  • Complete all required reports and administrative duties on time.
  • Collect and manage required data and internal and external reporting. Ensure accuracy of data and reporting. Ensure the effective completion of all assessment and measurement activities of programs
  • Comply with all administrative policies and procedures, processes and controls
  • Accountable for accurate and timely paperwork, reports, and data entry
  • Accountable for utilizing all BGCGTC communication tools regularly and effectively

Relationships:

  • Be a positive role model
  • Maintain emotional control and make good decisions under pressure
  • Represent the Boys & Girls Club in a positive manner

Attendance:

  • Regular attendance is required; arrive on time, work required hours/shift, and leave at scheduled time


Requirements

Education and Work Experience Requirements:

  • Associate’s Degree (or equivalent hours) from an accredited college or university with 2-3 years of experience in youth development, OR a Bachelor's Degree with 1 year of experience working with youth

Minimum Requirements:

  • Ability to work regular program hours with periodic evenings, nights, and weekends
  • Ability to be a positive role model
  • Ability to be patient with youth and adults
  • Ability to facilitate, teach, or instruct
  • Ability to network as well as build and maintain positive relationships
  • Ability to work with at-risk youth
  • Knowledge of technology and software such as tablets, social media, cloud-based tools, and virtual meeting tools
  • Effective organizational skills
  • Knowledge of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs
  • Must be able to obtain CPR and First Aid certification
  • Must be able to pass agency background screens and drug screens at any time
  • Must have reliable transportation, liability insurance, a satisfactory driving record, and a valid driver’s license for the operation of a motor vehicle relevant to carrying out duties

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Bilingual
  • APS or CPS credentials
  • Work experience with or program knowledge of the Boys & Girls Club Movement (national and/or local Club) is an advantage
