About Our Program

Eckerd Connects Prevention Services provides substance misuse prevention education and community based activities to build resiliency in youth. The foundation to the program is the use of evidence based curriculum that facilitates the teaching of lifeskills to youth on identified topics like communication skills, decision making, and self-esteem with age appropriate discussions about substance misuse including alcohol and tobacco.

The Hi-Five program focuses on elementary aged youth who are offered class, group, or individual services.at partner locations. At each level of service, we work to help youth build personal strengths and identify their personal protective factors.

The RISE (Resilience in Strength and Empowerment) program focuses on middle and high school youth at partner locations and focuses on group and individual services through a series of sessions on topics that include setting reachable goals, making responsible decisions, and understanding addiction. Presentations are also offered to share the risks of early substance misuse with other students and community organizations. Together these programs help to build a stronger community and leverage the development of individual resiliency for a better future.

About Eckerd Connects

Family has always been at the heart of Eckerd Connects. When we were founded in 1968 by Jack and Ruth Eckerd, the legendary power couple was often asked what motivated them to start a non-profit in rural Florida. Their answer was always the same, “It’s the kids.”

Today those words still hold true – but much like other families, ours has grown. Over five decades later with a presence in 20 states and the District of Columbia, our family of services has expanded to include Job Corps, workforce development, aid for the homeless, transitional services for troubled youth, prevention services, and so much more.
