Preventative Maintenance Technician - Kitchen Equipment RepairResponsible for performing preventative maintenance on commercial kitchen equipment to ensure
operational efficiency and safety in school kitchens. Equipment includes, but is not limited to, ovens,
steamers, warmers, dishwashers, walk-in and reach-in refrigeration. Develops and maintains good
relationships and communication with kitchen operations staff and repair technicians. Makes
independent decisions and seeks resources to successfully complete assigned projects and maintenance
tasks. Operates district assigned vehicle and independently travels to various schools throughout the
school district.
MINIMUM EDUCATION OR FORMAL TRAINING –
High School or Equivalent
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE --
Background in preventative maintenance or kitchen equipment repair preferred
LICENSES & CERTIFICATION –
CFC Certification obtained within 1 year from date of hire
KNOWLEDGE & OTHER QUALIFICATIONS –
Ability to adjust from working independently to collaborating with a team
Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to safely use hand and power tools
Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving skills to identify equipment needs

ESSENTIAL ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS-
● Temperature Extremes: Constant fluctuation between hot cooking areas (ovens, steam tables,
warmers) and cold environments (walk-in freezers/refrigerators).
● Safety Hazards: Exposure to high-voltage electricity, pressurized steam, sharp blades, and
cleaning chemicals.
● Work is typically indoors in busy, fast-paced, kitchen environments
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS -
● Frequent repetitive motions such as bending, squatting, standing, reaching, sitting, walking,
kneeling, climbing stairs and ladders, and overhead work.
● Able to lift up to 50lbs.
Inventory & Documentation: Manage parts inventory on service vehicle and maintain detailed
notes in digital work order system for all completed service and repairs. Make
recommendations for purchases of equipment and supplies.
Preventative Maintenance (PM): Plan and perform preventative maintenance tasks, including
cleaning, lubricating, and adjusting components of commercial kitchen equipment to prevent
costly breakdowns. Coordinate with other trades (electrical, plumbing, HVAC) and repair
technicians, when necessary, to complete assigned projects.
Personal Accountability. Prioritize tasks effectively and organize work in an efficient manner to
meet deadlines and operational needs. Stay motivated and self-directed, taking initiative to
manage responsibilities with minimal supervision.
Diagnostics & Repair: Under the guidance of repair technicians, assist with troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, electrical, gas, and refrigeration issues for equipment such as ovens,
steamers, dishwashers, warmers, walk-in and reach-in refrigeration components.
Perform other related duties as assigned or requested
Customer service/communication: Train kitchen staff in the proper daily cleaning and basic
care of equipment to reduce misuse and damage. Communicate thoroughly with repair
technicians and appropriate operations team staff regarding equipment maintenance and/or
repair progress.
