Seasonal Contract position supporting the National Science Foundation managed United States Antarctic Program as part of the Antarctic Support Contract (ASC).Preventative Maintenance Coordinatorwill supervise maintenance or construction work, or any combination thereof, under the supervision of the Facilities Maintenance SupervisorTasking is based on ASC schedule requirements.
Position Responsibilities(not all inclusive):
Implements andmaintainsa safe workplace program and ensure that safety is the highest priority on the jobsite.
Supervisesthe activities of Facilitiescraftpersonnel on station
Supervisesand performshands-on diagnosis, repair, and scheduled Preventative Maintenance on existing facilities, equipment, systems, and infrastructure
Preparesand documentswork plans, job hazard analysis, job safety analysis, code required forms, checklists, and internal procedural documents asrequired
Provides ASC Facilities Maintenance Management/Station Facilities Engineer with status updatesregardingon ice changes in scheduling, resource loading, safety, work procedures, equipment failures/incidents, and operating postures of critical Facilities Life/Safety equipment
Ensuresthe Crafts are trained in ASC Environmental, Safety & Health Program (ESH) program, applicable Standard Operating Procedures, Guides and Plans, and for craft training in Maximo
Holdscrafts accountable for work order completion and MAXIMO data integrity
Timely response to emergency service calls during and outside normal working hours
Maintainseffective communication between departments and representsdepartment as needed at operational meetings
Advises Facilities Maintenance Supervisor of job progress, material/labor requirements, and personnel matters
Accomplishes tasking working from Job Plans, verbal information, schematics, blueprints, wiring diagrams, documents, vendor/manufacturer manuals, and applicable specifications and codes
Follows established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), suggest revisions as needed, and create SOPs as directed
Routinelyutilizesindependent judgment and discretion toidentifypotential issues and solve problems
Proactivelyidentifiesany unsafe conditions, hazards, or Code violations and communicates them effectively
Works directly with other departments to plan and complete tasking
Evaluates labor and material needs for tasking and assign duties to subordinate staff as appropriate
Interprets schedules, design drawings,specificationsand diagrams to carry out tasking
Evaluates andidentifiesjob hazards and effectively communicates information to staff verbally and in writing through various venues, including weekly and daily crew meetings
Provides suggestions and recommendations for re-hiring,terminationand advancement of staff
Performs quality assurance review of Facilities Maintenancework and related documentation
Ensuresaccuratematerial and labor charge code use, andaccuratetimelytimecard submittal
Ensuresaccurateand thorough documentation of hours worked, tasking performed, materials used, and processes involved
Communicates professionally, both orally and in writing, with subordinates to relay information, including staff meetings, performance appraisals, job requirements, division metrics, Quality Assurance procedures, and ASC Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH).
Assistswith the ordering of resupply materials for the department tomaintainadequate inventory on station
Occasionallyutilizestheassistanceof other station personnel to complete tasking, orassistsother trades or departments with their tasking
Communicates with ASC Teammates, National Science Foundation, military and other agency officials, as needed, over the telephone, via email, and in person, in a professional and tactful manner.
Works with Human Resources to address conflict or personnel issues as they arise
Handles confidential matters (personnel actions, management reports, etc.)in accordance withmanagement policy and with the highest degree of professionalism
Providestimelyperformance feedback to staff andtimelysubmission of end-of-season evaluations to Human Resources
Ensures staff attendance at required trainings andmaintainrecords of departmental trainings
Communicates professionally and informatively with subordinates
Complies withall ASC Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH), Waste Management and Quality Assurance requirements
Implements andmaintainsWork Center Safety Program andparticipatein ASC safety objectives
Participate in community programs such as “house-mouse” (chores), “daisy-picking” (station clean-up), “GASH” (galley clean-up at Palmer), and recycling efforts
Performs other duties asrequired
Required Education, Experience, Certificates and Licenses:
High School diploma orGED
A minimum of six yearsdocumented experience in all phases of preventive and corrective maintenance, including industrial and/or commercial facilities maintenance experience on refrigeration, HVAC, combustion heating appliances, plumbing, and electrical
Minimum three of the six years’ experience must be in a lead,supervisororforemanrole with a progressive increase in responsibility supervising craftforemenand crafts persons
Possess the competencies, willingness, and ability to perform the duties of position

Intermediate level computer skills
MS Office Suite experience to include Word,Exceland Outlook
Knowledgeable of, and willing to learn and effectivelyutilize,computer basedlabor, inventory, and maintenance tracking applications
Competent in LOTO procedures forappropriate tasking
Proficient in risk assessment and determination of PPEappropriate tospecific tasking
Knowledgeable of limits of PPE and proper maintenance of PPE
Familiar with fall protection and respirator use
Competent analyzing situations and making technical and safety decisions based on specifications and applicable codes and manufacturer guidelines
Solid decision-making ability and sound judgment tosafely and effectively solve problems
Good organizational and planning skills

Experience with oil fired combustion heating appliances
Experience with Alerton Ascent Compass Software
Experience with Direct Digital Control (DDC)
Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)
Experience with Human Machine Interface (HMI)

Experience with Maximo or other Computerized Maintenance Management System
Physical and/or Other Requirements
Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods
Successful completion of Medical and Dental examinations required by the NSF for deployment to Antarctica
Successful completion of drug screening and background check required by employer
Successful completion of Federal Background Check required by the NSF
Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum as required by the position.
Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold as required by the position.
Mustparticipatein community programs, such as “house-mouse” (chores), “daisy-picking” (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts & safetyobjectives
Valid Driver’s License issued in the United States
